Kunzle cakes. Mum bought these from the Baker when I was a child, many many years ago.

I think they had a pastry base, then different coloured sponge cake and I think it had icing on the top. They were the size of a custard slice.

Haven't seen them in many years but they were delicious, it might be they were a Midland thing.

The Kunzle cakes i remember were a chocolate shell with a small layer of sponge cake in the bottom and then lots of moussey stuff on top.
There's a recipe here recreating this sort but using butter cream. If you really whipped up the buttercream I think it would do the trick

Bournvita springs to mind and Cadburys used to make a bar called Old Jamaica.

I found Old Jamaica a couple of weeks ago in B&M, still the taste I remember.
The wrapper has changed quite a bit

VIM! my mum swore by it! came in a tube - like a pringles tube with a perforated top - and you sprinkled it around your sink, bath, loo then scrubbed like mad - and rinsed, and rinsed and eventually you got all hot and sweaty and your porcelain bathroom gleamed and sparkled!
on second thoughts - No I don't miss it!

Maybe I'll track some down and give it ago again, but I found something like it in Sainsbobs and got all excited before becoming disappointed. It just didn't taste as I remembered it. Nan and granddad used to work for Chivers which became part of Cadbury Schwepps. I grew up with a never ending supply of chocolate and fizzy drinks etc and consequently a sweet tooth. I was lucky enough to get all the new stuff before it went nationwide. Some things never got that far. Before the crème egg as we know it was a version containing chocolate filling and it was more runny/gooey. I used to love them, does anyone else remember them ? Wrapped in tartan foil, under the fry's brand and around in the early 70's.
  • Frys Five Centres were lovely - like peppermint creams but with a fruit flavour in each 'pillow', Peanut Treets - M&Ms just don't quite cut it, Terrys Bitz bars and Ringos crisps.

I also loved Jiff micro-liquid but I haven't seen it in years. Oh, that jingle got into your head 'Jiff micro-liquid where are you?' *it jumps out the cupboard* 'Here I am!' :D:D:D

I've just remembered Terrys Chocolate Lemon - a lemon version of their Chocolate Orange. Sadly they didn't sell them for long.

You can still buy Vim, I have some in my cupboard, you've reminded me why I don't use it often! All that rinsing!
