Mine too - it's the oddest thing as they haven't laid since September. Have had 2 eggs a day from 3 bantams for the past 7 days (with one day off!!)
I've still got loads in the freezer from the last glut in Sept, it's not the hens who are going to be egg-bound!!!
You can freeze eggs??Thriftkitten

Course you can!! I beat two together and freeze. Great for omelettes, scrambled eggs, which is how I best like eating them, or baking. Others I'm sure will be on here later (too busy breaking the ice on the drinking water at the moment!!) with other preferred methods such as ice trays etc. Depends on how you like using them really.0 -

ok new problem - oldest hen problem.
I had two big grey hens and got two little black ones. They're all in together but no matter what I do I cant stop the grey ones from bullying the black ones. I have to let them out in shifts or the new girls are too scared to come out and eat and drink, black hens get 8-12:30, grey hens get 12:30 to bedtime. Any ideas? They all go to bed together as long as the black ones are in first, if the grey ones get there first, the black ones hide under the shed until I put them in. They dont fight in the bed."There is no substitute for time."

Its sometimes a cruel world for chickens and humans. How long have the new girls been here? Can you separate them during the day temporarily, but allow them to see us each other through the fence. otherwise you might just let time sort out the pecking order, and unless one of the grey is a psycho- it should sort it self out!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

They are going to miss their freedom when i go back to work next week. They look quite amusing pacing to and fro like POWs until i let them out.
How are the inmates at Stalag 17 ?
I didn't know you could freeze eggs either. I've been giving them away to anyone and everyone including the postman,:rotfl:just to keep the stocks down. But I managed to sell some at my Book club meeting so by Friday night I had just 2 boiled eggs left.:j0 -
Morning all from a frosty cornwall, we have been short changed in the snow dept..... Not a flake, daughter is so disgusted that she has said that when she moves out it will be to an area that gets snow most winter.... I'm thinking Russia lol.
The residents of cluckington mannor are still laying like it's going out of fashion, Mr Cluckster our only boy out of the 4 babies is now 24 weeks old and voicing a fully fledged cok a doodle doo....... for a bantam he can sure carry his voice, we are so proud of him and he s a real stunner, lovely colourings, he is a lemon milfleur sablepoot. he is trying his luck with the girls but for the most part he just gets to the highest place and sings.... I have tried checking the eggs to see if he is active:rotfl: but so far he is practicing bless. Does anyone know if a viable egg looks different right away??? Ie veiny or does that happen after a few days??? all of our eggs are clear when candled except for the yolk. Hope all your chooks are warm and well, we have been lucky i guess to escape the white stuff, although I would of liked some, I would of been worried about my feathery friends. they are snug in their plastic shed. the wooden coop is now only accessible during the day, for roosting and fraternizing:eek:Thriftkitten
