what a shame-sorry for your loss"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Oh dear Giger, I'm so very sorry to hear this.
Mine decided to become escapologists on Boxing Day and Daisy took off over our back fence. Now to give her some credit, she did do a sterling job to get there as she had a small fence to get over that was stopping them going onto the lawn (about 2ft) and then a 4ft fence to freedom. Poor girl was terrified and trying desperately hard to get back but she just couldn't. So MrS had to go round the back and I was at the end of the garden coaxing her back. I'm sure they must have been watching Chicken Run or Great Escape at some point.
Needless to say - all four have now had their wings clipped - though I'm not sure I've taken enough off as I've only followed an internet guide - any tips welcome. All four were then sulking and preening themselves for ages :rotfl:and making me feel guilty for mutilating their beutiful feathers.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear about Sebastian, He was such a lovable rogue. (((hugs))) to you and Belle, Gigervamp.
Chickenopolis, sorry to hear of your loss too, and anyone else who has suffered losses recently.
I had to clip the wings of my four recently after finding them in next door's garden. The next day we discovered that they hadn't flown over the fence, they had dug under it :rotfl: No more Chicken Run DVD for them!My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Oh Giger I'm so sorry to hear you've lost Sebastian. He will long be remembered on this board though, gorgeous little boy. Is Belle missing him?
I'm glad to say that after following advice on here Betty has returned to normal after 6 weeks of being broody. The other girls must be relieved not to have to fight over he one remaining nest box any more! Thanks for helping me to deal with it.
They all escaped into the garden today in the freezing cold and while 3 of them were conned into coming back through the gate with the offer of corn Betty was having none of it and I ended up playing round the rabbit hutch with her for half an hour before I finally managed to catch her. I think she was making up for lost time, I could almost see her laughing at me.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Thank you RacyRed x Gosh have they been watching the Great Escape ??:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0

It must be the fine weather that is enticing them to wander as mine were in next doors wood again. They manage to find holes in the netting that the rabbits have chewed through but getting back is harder. I resorted to rattling sunflower seeds in a jar as the oats were too quiet and they had gone deaf in both eyes! Cheeky madams.
How you doing Giger?0 -
Thanks everyone. It seems strange not having Sebastian following me around. I'm not sure if Belle is missing him, although this morning she was the last out of the coop. I opened the back to check for eggs and she was on one of the perches making a right ol' racket.
One of our legbars has started laying again. I was saying to hubby only the other day that I missed the blue eggs and was wondering when they'd start laying again. It's been months as they both went broody, then went into moult.
Escaping seems to be a common theme at the moment. Some of our girls escaped the field the other day. I glanced out of the kitchen window and saw 3 warrens up on the wall. Hubby went out to round them up and discovered that there were 4 others down on the path!
We need to fix the fencing between the field and the top of the garden as that's where they were getting through. I don't mind them being in the garden, but I worry that they'll wander off down the drive and under the gate, or into the neighbouring field that has horses.0 -
Happy New Year everyone. Lets hope its a happier one than last year for all our feathered friends.0
