  • Jenny you may have to resort to a cage. I have a pet carrier which is wire all round but thought the wire might hurt Letties feet so put a log in with her plus food and water. I think the idea is that it will cool her down. Lettie only had to stay in it 2 night/days but it was in the summer. While she was in the nest she practically gave up eating only rushing out for a mouthful. I tried ice packs in the nest, a house brick which just resulted in broken eggs from the others (that was supposed to stop her going in but didn't.She just perched on top) Hope you don't have to resort to this though.
  • Thanks Jenny & Giger,

I've checked Rosies feet and she doesn't have anything noticeable wrong with them. I'll obviously keep an eye on her but I'm happy to think it's just a quirk for now.
  • Gigervamp- how is Sebastian today?

He's definitely got a cold. We kept him in the kitchen last night and I had to wake him up at about 10.30 this morning. His breathing is ok, but he's got a runny nose and was looking very sorry for himself and his tail was down. He didn't seem interested in food until I gave him some corn mix this afternoon, but he has been drinking quite a lot.

As he was looking so sad, I managed to get hold of Belle when I went to give the girls their corn earlier and I've brought her down too so he has a bit of company. He did seem to have perked up a bit once she was in the box with him. She didn't look too pleased though and I'm sure she gave me a *look*! :rotfl:
  • Giger, have you tried Sebastian with some Respite in the water or some citracidal?
  • Bless him , I hope he gets better soon xx he really is a bit of a celeb on this thread and seems a right little character :)

No, I haven't. They do have ACV in their water, but I've not seen either Respite or citricidal at our suppliers. I'll have to buy some online.

    He is a dear isn't he? :)
His tail's still droopy, but he's definitely more animated now.
  • Glad to hear he's being well pampered. lol

I'm sure people thnk we are mad for taking such care and trouble over 'just a chicken'
  • Yeuk, just closed up my girls and found something very similar to this (not for the faint hearted) http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/ChristmasAlienEgg/ChristmasAlienEgg_MorePhotos.html, think the jury is still out on what it is but it stank to high heaven and is either ovary or egg related.

My ex batts haven't laid for about 2 months now so quite surprised to find them passing anything.

Never come across this before in over 20 years of poultry keeping.
