I got some JJ, but stupidly didnt get the puffer bottle. Am just sprinkling it around the floor and nest boxes. Will that be enough ? Somebody in another forum said add it to water and paint on as a paste, I might do that if the rain ever stops !
Sprinkling it is fine. A puffer just makes it easier to treat the hens and is a way of using it more efficiently and cheaply. My supplier gave me one free with the quantity I purchased. I'm sure they aren't very dear.
So glad you got some. You shouldn't gave an issue with mite at all whilst you are using it. Much better to tackle the problem before it arises! Well done. :T:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I did paint some on but not sure how effective that is. I sprinkled it madly all over everything as well. What kind of disinfectant is best to use in the run ? I haven't got any yet.0

I buy the large bottle of Jeyes and dilute it in a squirty bottle. It's brill as it is tar based (creosote type of thing again!). It also kills mite. If you want to be OS though just dilute regular malt vinegar and spray liberally. I do this when my Jeyes supply runs out.
I am not sure about scaly leg as we have never had that particular problem so I haven't researched it I'm afraid. Hope I don't have to:eek::A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Spirit I'm just new to chickens but I read somewhere that Vaseline rubbed into the leg will cure it .0

I don't often post on the forum but just to say
Chickens are so addictive, I started with 4 but now have 320 in 4 acres of fox proof fenced paddocks with loads of trees for cover not to mention the alpacas which do a great job of guarding them as well as putting the dogs in their place.0 -

I'm not where you are yet with the numbers, but it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't take me long to be there or nearby! :rotfl:0 -

Please can I ask how you make your paddocks fox proof? I love the thought of alpacas on guard!!0 -
Fox proof fencing:- six foot six inches high, 2" welmesh, plus another 18"trenched into the ground, topped by 2foot high soft/floppy 4" netting, At the top of the weldmesh is an electric wire charged by a solar battery/ies. I was going to have an electric wire along the bottom but we have horses and should they get out they may get tangled in this so I didn't have it.
The alpacas were the best buy as I haven't lost any since having them apart from an odd one that has decided to fly over the fence, mainly white leghorns (they climb the trees first and launch themselves). When I get them back I clip their wings, it usually stops them.
We are overrun with rabbits and our soil is mainly sandy so I have to watch out for foxes widening the burrows and using these as tunnels into the paddocks. My dear OH bought me a machine for my last birthday which collaspes the tunnels - No perfume for that birthday!!
The whole thing cost a fortune but at least I've tried my best at stopping them being a drive through Kentucky for the foxes.0
