But sadly, not available to everyone :(

All this stuff on here from you 'townies' about unlimited and 'cheap deals' ain't for us country folk you know.

2MB and tenner a month is all we can hope for

You don't need to be country folk to be missing out on deals.

A relative moved to a new build estate in a popular and populated area and she gets 2MB if she is lucky. Her local exchange has a surprising limited choice of providers.

It is about time this country invested some serious money in a decent broadband infrastructure.

"please could they supply your MAC?" - I think you are getting confused with PAC for mobiles ! Your WAN MAC would change anyway if changing providers.

    ;)

No, you're confusing MAC with MAC ;-)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migration_Authorisation_Code
In the United Kingdom a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) is a 17 to 19-character unique identifier code used by DSL customers when they wish to switch internet service provider (ISP). A MAC is generated by the actual telecommunication provider (most commonly BT), identifies the local loop (telephone line) to be switched, and authorises the provider to switch the customer to the new ISP.

Well this is MSE after all...
What's the worst that can happen? They refuse, and you are no worse off.
It's just normal negotiation, that's what retention staff are there for.

I'm so pleased, macman, so thanks for the encouragement. (I even managed without the 'brave' pills!) Using the information on westwood's helpful link - post 27 - I 'phoned PlusNet. (Bearing in mind that I really would prefer to stay with them..............)

Well - I'm delighted. They can offer me 24 months unlimited Broadband at £2.99 for the first twelve months. I have already paid a year's PlusNet telephone rental in advance. As I pay £6.49 for 10 GB at present that is a great offer for me and compares favourably with the cheapest other provider at £2.50 - also I won't need to change provider.
After 12 months the unlimited charge will be £9.99 monthly (although I suppose that rate - like most others - will go up eventually).

Thank you all - this is serious MSE stuff. All I have to do is contact PlusNet before the date of my next bill (around 10th February) and they'll put me on the reduced rate for twelve months.

I'm not sure how to use the icons but please insert big smiles!

It's still the equivalent of £6.49/month over 24 months, just unlimited now, when it ends do be prepared to switch, it's not really an upheaval.

similar haggling on home insurance etc often works btw.

Thanks very much, closed. I'm delighted for now as it is a considerable improvement but I'll keep in mind your helpful advice.

Maybe by the time it ends I'll be an expert at negotiating!

I just took some of your 'brave pills' and phoned up too.
Eventually got put through to 'someone who may be able to offer you a better deal' and ended up with Unlimited for £6.50 on a 24 month deal

    Thanks all :)
