My mum had a friend who left her husband who wouldn't give her any money despite the fact he was a high earner and had wanted her to be a SAHM. He wouldn't even give her any money for tampons and she was reduced to having to stick wads of toilet paper in her knickers.
Sounds like my Dad who used to go out and get drunk each night, although he worked 7 days a week on 12 hour shifts, come payday he would give my Mother a fiver and tell her to get the shopping for the week, (for a family of 6) not forgetting to pay the bills with what was left.

Other than the violence he would give out to Mother and us children, my Mother would be forced into stealing food and selling herself in order to feed us all. She finally got the courage to leave him (after he would blatantly bring a woman home to share his bed), we left with nothing but the shirts on our backs. But it was worth the struggle to live a relatively normal life without such a leech.

Jesus Christ, I'm sorry life dealt you that card. Your mother was amazing to leave him and I'm glad you swerved any more abuse from him.

It had a happy ending. Mother has a lovely flat and frequently goes on holidays abroad with her friends,us children are all settled down with kids of our own and my Dad has NOTHING, no savings and no family, just his little old self left to fend and feel sorry for himself.

Sometimes I wonder why the hell people are so self-destructive....... I mean his life vs the life he could have had if he hadn't been so horrible. Control issues I suppose.

Indeed. He was actually a really normal husband until she gave up work and had a baby. He really wanted a baby and he really wanted it to be bought up by it's mum, not a child minder so it wasn't like he was forced into being the breadwinner. It was like a button switched in his head and sent him on a power trip when it actually happened. He seemed to enjoy having control over everything. It was very odd.

I'd bet he was secretly always like that but just a very good actor/liar until she had the baby - scary.
