The title of the thread and OP's first post are a clue;)

If you are going to pay by monthly direct debit the amount will not be related to what you HAVE used but to what they think you WILL use averaged out over the year. It will be reconciled with what you have used at intervals

    Hey

I just remembered. Back on 13th Nov we had a new water meter fitted so it was 0000. It's now on 00016.
Does this mean we have used 16 cubic metres in just over 2 months? Based on that I work it out to be £196 a year.
I think my replacement meter had a few units on it possibly from testing. Did you read the meter when it was installed?.

A unit or so on the meter wont make a lot of difference and it's unlikely to have been whole cubic metres, probably just 0.1 0.2 - possibly a pound at the most - you can save that by not using so much water.

You can work it out yourself and then ask to have your DD increased or wait until April when the bill comes in and they readjust your DD to take into account any shortfall. If you give them a couple of meter readings a month apart they might do it automatically.
