Sky sports

I have a tv with built in freeview, the aerial is in the loft and picture is good. My husband would like Sky Sports, do we need to buy a sky package or is there any other way to add the sports channels please?

Who is your broadband provider? The 3 BT Sport channels are available through BT ('free') or Plusnet (£5.99pm) also, although you'd need a Sky dish and receiver with a viewing card (not an actual subscription). Sky boxes are cheap as chips on eBay, and any independent installer can sort you out with a dish install.
I suspect that is your cheapest option long term, with just the initial one-off cost, if you are with BT or PN.

Then TT YouView is a waste of money, as the on-demand side of the box won't function.
Now TV is streamed live, so that needs broadband as well.
Since a Sky Sports sub is going be a minimum of £43.50pm (since it's only available as an add-on to the basic Sky TV service), why don't you look at taking out a cheap broadband and phone package with PN, and adding BT Sport to that (does it have to be Sky Sports?) with an independent dish install. You can get 12m unlimited broadband and calls for 2.50pm a month at present, plus line rental. BT Sport add on is £5.99.

So will it mean getting a sky dish?

You need a minidish and a Sky box, yes. But you don't need a Sky sub for my suggestion, if he just wants sport channels, rather than Sky Sports specifically,
Who is your current line rental provider?

We have a bt landline, and tv with built in freeview. What other sports channels are there? Thought it was only Sky sports?
Sorry just saw about bt sport, but I do think its sky he would like

If it has to be Sky Sports Then you are out of options without a Sky sub or without broadband.
I suggest you go and research what he actually wants to watch in more detail, because BT have taken a large share of sport that was formerly exclusive on Sky-especially Premier League football. BT Sports gives you 3 channels, BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN. These 3 are all available 'free' from BT once you take out a broadband sub: all you need then is a Sky dish and receiver and you can get those channels at no cost. You can't get what you want via Freeview.

Adding broadband to your existing BT account (around £10pm) is going to be vastly cheaper than a Sky Sports sub at £522 pa. £100-120 will cover the dish and Sky box install. A viewing card is £25 if not already supplied with the box.
You can add BT Sport to your BT package for £12pm if you don't have broadband (and then receive it via a Sky dish) but it would be cheaper to take the broadband and get it for 'free'.

With you having a BT landline, if you were to get BT Infinity (fibre) and BT TV, you could get both BT Sport and Sky Sports 1&2 over your internet connection.
