Sky to TalkTalk advice?

Sky are right, stop panicking about not having a MAC.
Cheers for the clarification there. However i dont understand why sky confuse me by telling me that i dont have to cancel with them as sky said the new provider will take over their service when u say new providers cannot take over sky service.
why would sky confuse customers like that?0 -

A new provider cannot take over a Sky service because, quite simply, they aren't Sky. If you're taking a service from an LLU operator then you're on their network using their kit in the exchange.
You don't need a MAC code because you're not 'moving' your service, you're cancelling one service completely and taking another new service. A MAC code is only needed on a non-LLU service using BT's network to provide your service.
You can ask Sky for a MAC but as your service is provided over an MPF or "fully unbundled" network it isn't required.0 -
update:
I cancelled sky phone line/broadband services that will end by the 12th feb next month. However I due to go live with talktalk on the 10th feb next month.
So does that mean sky services will interrupt talktalk services for 2 days? Or should I not worry as I paid talktalk a installation fee for a seperate line meaning theres no conflict between 2 providers on the same line?
Can a seperate line use an existing BT phone master socket or does it needs its own phone socket?
I would reschedule talktalk installation to the 12th feb however they say 12th is not available.0 -

I would say that Talk Talk have ordered a new line not a takeover ( migration )of your current service, so you will be getting a new number from TT rather than keeping your 'Sky' number, if this isn't important then the chances are that when the OR engineer turns up they will provide a TT line alongside the Sky line.
It's quite likely because it's easier for the OR engineer that they will use some or all of the existing lineplant from the exchange to your house for the TT line and in effect leave the Sky service disconnected somewhere, so anyone calling your 'Sky' number from the 10th to the 12th will get ringtone no reply,as that line will not terminate anywhere, again this may not be an issue for you.
Something to bear in mind, if there is no capacity to provide 2 lines to your address, the OR engineer could officially abort the install , as the Sky lines 'copper pair' isn't 'spare' and shouldn't be used until it's properly 'ceased' and that cannot be before the 12th....OR's contract is with the service provider and not you, so officially you should have 2 lines for 2 days and this may not be physically possible, even if you say it's ok to use the 'pair' from the Sky line, it's not really up to you, but Sky0 -

So I should see 2 lines from the telephone pole to my house?
If the sky line was properly ceased then the talktalk openreach engineer can use the same sky line without adding another line?
Does each line require its own master phone socket? Or can the taltalk openreach engineer rip out the sky line from its master phone socket and use it for the talktalk line?0 -

There are a few possibilities , the drop wire from the pole to your house may have more than 1 pair in it, so even if they did install a line alongside the existing line, they may not have to put up another drop wire , the engineer doing the install , to make life easier for himself would no doubt want to use the existing socket, drop wire and routing to the exchange, just swapping the connection from Sky to TT inside the exchange, but they wouldn't be aware of the existing line
A lot depends on what the OR installer does first, if they visit you before doing anything and you tell them about the Sky line, they would probably bend the rules to swap the line, if they start at the exchange, get the line through to the pole outside and only then discover the existing Sky line, it would be more work to swap from Sky to TT than just finish the install alongside the existing line
You get advice on forums that swapping from one LLU/MPF provider to another cannot be done, but it can, it's just the CP's either are poorly trained, don't care, or it's easier to just order a new line, than arrange a MPF to MPF transfer, if TT had raised a migration from Sky, then you wouldn't have got an appointment for a visit, just a date for the changeover, and on that date someone from OR would cease the Sky line and connect TT to the copper pair in the exchange that already exists to your house, but given the mis-match in dates it doesn't sound as if a migration order was raised, but a new provide...0 -
Hi,
I'm in the same boat, want to leave $ky and move to TalkTalk.
Sky are saying they can't see any reason why TT can't migrate the line over.
TT are saying some customers of $ky they can't take over the line - and I'm one of those (unfortunate) customers!
Which leaves me stuck right in the middle and none the wiser.
Dialing 17070 Zoe speaks (quite fun) which confirms I'm on $ky SVBN.
In the end I've put the order in online for TT and they have scheduled an engineer visit for the 27th to install a new line!?
Just spoken to $ky and they have said I need to give them 14 days notice to cancel the $ky line. So now I'm a bit apprehensive of giving that notice in case TT screw up and I end up with no service.
What on earth is Ofcom doing? why is this process so painful and not straightforward.
I have wasted all day yesterday on this and this morning trying to work out what on earth is going on. Multiply that by all the people who face the same problem and thats a lot of wasted productive time.
Think there needs to be a sticky on this. Some very good points above by Gordon Hose and iniltous.0
