Can talktalk use my existing bt openreach master socket in the house?

I dont understand i thought as long there is a BT phone socket in the house then any provider that uses a BT line for their services can use it right?

Yes, if the existing line is OK then they will use that, they don't physically install a new line.
The charge is for a new line provision, not an install, and it's the same as for a physical new line, or for a reconnection at the exchange or street cab.
Once a line is disconnected, a reconnection charge is made regardless of the work involved.

ok thanks now its clearer to understand. They should clarify the install charge during online checkout.

I phoned sky to cancel broadband/phone however they said i dont have to cancel as tge new provider talktalk will switchover/takeover from them. Is this correct or do i have to cancel manually?

if i have to cancel manually then does sky require 1 month notice for cancellation?

I can confirm that Tesco LLU customers can port their number and service to Talk Talk and Sky, I know, I set up the porting (for Vodafone (C&W)) with both of them.

    update:

Just phoned sky and they say they require 2 weeks notice for manual cancellations.

However they keep on saying they cant give MAC code and I told them I may not go with talktalk and might go with another provider and that provider might need the MAC code.

They say all providers do not need MAC code from them (Sky). Is this correct?

I might go with Tesco if I can keep my number with them. Can I get discount when I pay my line rental upfront with Tesco? Does Teco require MAC code from sky?

I might go with virgin media. Can I port my number to virgin media? Does virgin media require MAC code from sky?

VM is a cable service, no MAC required-that's used for ADSL transfers only.

Tesco have a line rental saver, which I believe is recent, as I don't recall it when I was considering them.

However, I couldn't go with them, as my exchange quota for them was at capacity, meaning I could only have phone or broadband. For a couple of days (after joining Sky) the two were possible, but then neither became possible.

If you are considering Tesco, it would be worth your while asking about capacity, in case you burn your boats and then find they have no space.

Ok its starting to get confusing.

Is Sky violating Ofcom regulations? Is sky lying to me when they say they cant provide me with a MAC code even though im doing a ADSL transfer? If they are lying to me how do I enforce the Ofcom regulations against sky?

Is MAC code required for switchoves/takeovers/transfers from new ADSL providers?

Is MAC code is still required if I give Sky 2 weeks cancellation notice then start fresh with a new ADSL provider that telling me I have to pay a install fee meaning they not taking over the line from sky?

Why is it that during online website checkout for broadband/phone with a new suppliers there isnt a enter MAC code option?
  • I would not advise anyone to transfer over to TalkTalk. I have only been with them for 30 days. I have the full package, phone/TV/Broadband. The service is dreadful, nightly drop outs for all internet TV, daily drop outs of broadband, lucky to be on now. I'm currently trying to get out of their 18 month contract. Has anyone got any advice???

If you're on Sky LLU network (SVBN) then you won't need a MAC code to move your service to another operator. You just cancel with Sky and take the new service with the new operator. A new operator won't be able to take over a service on Sky's own network, for obvious reasons.

Sky are right, stop panicking about not having a MAC.
