You would be well advised to spend a little extra and buy a QUALITY!! five-star camera like this one which has received exceptionally good reviews.
I have just received mine and the quality of the pictures are superb, way above anything from these virtually unknown cheap brands mentioned here.

The Kodak deals in their clearance centre (link on left of Kodak Online page) look like a better deal than the one in the newsletter. There's a 5 MP camera for £69.

The ones in the refurb section are even better but you only get 6 months warranty. Still that's better that taking a risk on eBay. The Z740 for £89 is a snip.

Though I have been looking for a cheap compact camera for taking places where I can't really take my distinctly non pocket sized main camera.

JDPower, I am glad to see that my post here didn't confuse you too much as to stop you buying and getting a bargain camera.

Casio's range of Exilim cameras are a good starting point to look for a new camera. A year ago, I bought an 6 Megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z60 for less than £120 and have never looked back. The quality is excellent. You can get the same if not better spec for much less than that now.

Can I ask what you are comparing it against? As I said in an earlier post i have the Exilim SR770 and am very disappointed in the picture quality .. the picture is sharp enough but the colours are washed out (some are plain inaccurate), there is quite a bit of noise and despite being 7MP when zoomed in the renditoin is not as good as that captured by my 5 year old Kodak 4MP clunker (DX4900?).

I must say I totally agree with what others have said about a decent lense being fundementally important. I used to have a jenoptic 3.1 megapixel camera that I bought from 'The Computer Shop' and have to say it was more like a toy than a real camera, a couple of years ago I invested in a Praktica 4.1 megapixel camera and its worlds apart. Seriously I still get comments from people now saying 'wow, thats a nice camera' and 'those pictures have come out really well, that must be a good camera'. 4.1 megapixels seems more than adequate to get pictures of a high enough resolution but the lense is so good it takes better pictures than the 7+ megapixel cameras a couple of friends have.

Anyway, enough of my babble, ebuyer.com seem to do some good deals on cameras but keep checking as their stock changes all the time. At the moment they have a 'Grade A' Kodak C743 camera for £53.41 plus they do free delivery over £49.99. For your money you get

A friend of mine bought one (I think it was slightly cheaper when she bought it) but its a great camera for the money. Light, quick and effective, but be warned the battery life can be very short so i'd suggest getting a rechargeable battery from ebay (about £5) or expect to buy lots of duracells to get a decent life. I know its Grade A but its boxed as such from Kodak and the one my friend got was immaculate apart from a 'refurbished' sticker on the bottom so has probably just been opened and sent back then resold as Grade A
