The superdrug camera offer for £39.99 (approx) is now buy one get one free. I saw it on a shop window poster this morning.
  • I'll too will be keeping an eye on this thread. I bought the 5mp vivitar camera out of superdrug last year, worked out about £30 with the voucher, but its rubbish......well rubbish for me. I want a camera that can handle my shaky hands:rotfl: blurred images are a big no no.
I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like you :p

:p would like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing :o

Sorry to spoil the news, but you have to be really careful when buying cameras, they are one of those items in which "you get what you pay for."
Got to agree with PaintDude. I have a 5 year old Kodak 4MP clunker and was recently given a Casio Exilim SR770 7MP camera. While the Casio has various addiitonal features, better screen, faster, slimmer, lighter etc. the picture quality (accuracy, colour, noise etc.) is nowhere near as good as my old Kodak.

I agree, we all love a bargain but if you value quality its always best to get a good make and do some research first.

I find this site excellent for reviews and recommendations for best 5mp etc camera

    http://www.steves-digicams.com/

Budget cameras tend of have little or no optical zoom, forget digital zoom, many have poor lens (it really pays to get good lens rather than extra mega pixels), sometimes it worth paying that bit more.

I agree get some good batteries assuming the camera doesn't use it own propriety battery, 7dayshop sell cheap batteries charges, so does svp.co.uk, along with memory. I always recommend taking extra batteries with you (in a case) and an extra memory cartridge just in case

Sorry to spoil the news, but you have to be really careful when buying cameras, they are one of those items in which "you get what you pay for." Vivitar are budget cameras and come with cheap, plastic bodies and poor lenses/components. They are not likely to perform in the same way as more well known brands. A bargain that lasts a few months before failing is not much of a bargain, as my parents found out when buying one of these cameras.

You can get some very decent cameras for less than £100, well known camera brands such as Nikon, Olympus, Kodak, etc. These are possibly a better bet in the long run.

    This thread is utterly misguided.

You should NEVER buy cameras based on the number of megapixels. A branded 3MP would beat a Vivitar/Praktica

Cameras are not about specification, they are about PICTURES. I.e. optics and image processing - something the numbers won't indicate.

3MP is entirely adequate for 6"x4" photos. With poor-quality optics, however, the 6MP will look worse at that size.

Anyway, the better way to buy a camera is to buy the best QUALITY at the price you want to pay.

For this reason the Samsung is a FAR better buy than the Vivitar. Vivitar is poorly rated and you are throwing £60 away. No bargain that.

The S500 is not a great camera, http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/samsung-digimax-s500-black/4505-6501_7-31746127-2.html?tag=sub

but it's ok for the money.

Better way to buy a camera is to compare reviews, and look for good prices on well-rated models - don't buy purely based on numbers.
