Goodness me I didn't realise the beginning of the thread was so old. Sorry! Hopefully the info will be useful for anyone else who stumbles across the thread anyway!

    Update
Our cat was operated on over 2 years ago - and is currently eating way too much (he eats at neighbours too) - but is a fat happy 6 kg - so we are leaving it at that !!
Please don't tell us to put him on a diet - he is fine and ALIVE at 6kg...

Until he gets diabetes, that is. ;)

I started the thread last year, but don't apologise as I am sure it will be useful for any other worried cat owners who might come onto this thread if searching. I had the dilemma but as I had insurance I took the radioactive option. It seemed like an ordeal 2 weeks away from home and 3 weeks locked up as I needed to keep her away from my 4 year old son. BUT it was worth it. She is so happy now. I can leave her at home with a neighbour to feed if we go away for a weekend. She hated going in car to the cattery. Not to mention how much it would cost in the long run. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is in doubt. :T
