DVLA are bringing it in. Don't worry. It was meant to be Q3 2013 and now Q1 2014 (supposedly March) but it is coming.

That's only Access to Driver Data.
There was quite a lot of fuss about an NCD database last year, but I haven't heard anything since then, although that article implies nearly half the market are/will be using it.0 -

But like CUE it only is of limited use whilst not all insurers use it. Unfortunately LexisNexis' website doesnt have a whitepaper or any obvious technical specifications for the service and so its hard to say how useful this will truly be.0 -
I have had car insurance for 46 years and have never been asked for proof of NCD. I must have moved companies about a dozen times, and each has just accepted what I said on the form.
I asumed they must keep a central register, or pass information on at each change. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I changed from Aviva to DirectLine in Sept 2012 and was asked if I wanted them to try an electronic check on NCD. I said yes but it didn't validate. Had to resort to paper proof.
That now makes sense as the link posted by TSx above mentions DirectLine but doesn't mention Aviva.0 -
Have just moved to Churchill who spell out in their welcome letter that they will remove NCD if I don't send them proof.0

Alot of the time they will check a database to see who you was last insured with and get verbal confirmation of no claims.0

I only had to prove it once when my I was taking out a policy with Tesco, basically I already had a policy as a main named driver fully comp, I then bought a second car and I wanted to be insured as a the main named driver as after completing a bit of work I was going to sell car one.
Tesco asked me to post my NCD certificate, despite the fact that they were looking at their own electronic copy, so they had to post it to me so I could post it back.0
