Nokia stopped their Symbian weather service and map updates already, they promised updates until 2016.

Is there anything that can be done?

    Change your phone :D

On a serious note, the quote from the CEO I found said:
"software updates to Symbian devices are expected until at least 2016."

The key word in that is 'expected'. They didn't say they will definitely continue until 2016. Obviously things have changed in the last 3 years and they have decided to cease updates now.

So thinking about it, maybe the 'change your phone' comment was not so far wide of the mark! If you feel strongly about it then don't buy a Nokia again. Of course, you could always just keep your phone if you can live without the updates.

Mmm, the phone isn't that old but yeah, my next phone won't be a Nokia.

    Not really mate.

Also I'm fairly certain Nokia were doing everything possible to show symbian was dead since a couple of years back. I never expected support to last as long as it did tbh.

    Just don't buy Nokia again.

Nokia have now moved into a completely different OS which has a much brighter future so I wouldn't be worried about buying another Nokia.

But it shows you the type of company Nokia are now. They are still shipping Symbian smartphones and feature phones yet they are receiving no support.

Why do they not just bite the bullet and install android.
They are like a video shop only renting betamax, it does not work Nokia, Android does .
    Save yourselves.
    Be happy...;)

Don't buy a Symbian or feature phone; buy a Lumia? Problem solved!

And when they bring out a new version of the OS they kick the old one into the wilderness. Windows phone has missed the boat, too little too late. Unless Microsoft get their finger out and incentivise / coerce app producers, especially for the current popular commercial apps, I fear it will be going the same way as Blackberry but with a shorter lifespan. I am currently a W7.8 user and think my Lumia is a great rugged phone .......... until I see the app ads "available on iPhone and Android". The system also has loads of "quirks" that Microsoft, in typical Microsoft know all fashion, refuse to acknowledge are important to sort.
