Paying cash for fuel - no receipt
I don't know if this has been brought up before.
But I have noticed if you purchase petrol/diesel from a garage by cash payment you very rarely receive a receipt.
Didn't bother me much until I realised the consequences if the garage had problems with their fuel, which does happen on rare occasions. There would probably be no comeback to the garage, because there is no receipt.
Perhaps I am being over suspicious?

Ask them for a receipt.
There will be no problem.0 -
ask for one.
If i'm not given one i will always ask for one, for the reason you just mentioned.
All garages should be able to give you one0 -
I do get a receipt when I ask for one. But the worrying things is why they dont issue receipts unless you ask for one, surely this is wrong, and if there are problems with the wrong fuel being issued, what comeback would you have?0

To save paper? Same reason as the sweet shop don't give you a receipt unless you ask for it. No legal requirement to give one unless you ask.0

Because:
Most people don't want one
Many people will drop them on the forecourt rather than litter their car with them
The receipts cost them money in paper, ink, printer wear etc. Not a lot, but it does add up.0 -
As this is MSE, have you conisidered paying with a credit card that gives you cashback instead?

You'll get a receipt then too

In my humble experience, people who pay cash for goods/services (after removing the wad of £20 notes from their back pocket), are usually the kind of people who do not give receipts or expect receipts in return - if you see where I am coming from;)0

Out of curiousity, does anyone know if they are legally required to provide a receipt if you ask for one?0 -
I would never have £100 cash in my pocket to pay for fuel. Would want a receipt though for my fuelly records.0
