Humax is the brand to go for. I've had two other brands and the present Humax boxes have outlasted both.
Look up the programmes available on the two platforms, to help you decide. You will, of course need an aerial for Freeview, but if your tv has this, you could have a Freesat box and watch Freeview directly from your tv (but without the recording facility).0 -
Each platform has the same 'core' channels, with extras which are only available on Freeview and not Freesat (and vice versa). Some of the UK-TV channels come to mind (Dave, Gold etc) are available on freeview but not freesat, where freesat has CBS.
If you don't have a working aerial and live in an area with poor reception, then going for freesat is the easy option, just plug the box straight into the cables. Humax is the brand to go for, bit more expensive to buy than some of the other boxes, but will last longer (and be faster)0 -
These boxes are made by Humax (which are highly recommended) -
FreeSat - Freetime, Freeview - YouView. And both provide a wealth of catch up TV sevices too, if one has a 3Mbps internet connection.0 -
tammy66 asks the question Freesat or Freeview - the answer to this question is, if you have an aerial, Freeview, if you have a satellite dish, Freesat.
Presuming the Sky had 2 inputs, I'd go for a Humax Foxsat HDR or Humax Freetime box. They're both HD, dual recording Freesat boxes. Freetime adds much better catch-up integration, the Foxsat HDR does have basic catch up and will cost a good bit less.0 -

wired ? or can you get dongles or whatevere they are called these days?
thiking a humax box in the bedroom but thats upstairs , router is down....(and would it plug into an infinity hub if you can get wireless) ?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
The latest Humax freeview box (hdr 2000T) has a dongle (or ethernet). The others with catch up facilities have ethernet connection.0

Very simple to use a pair of Homeplugs to provide the remote connection to your router. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Can anyone tell me of perhaps the best and most reasonably priced Humax box on the market at the moment.
Planning to cancel Sky TV this week.
Still not decided on whether to go for Freeview or Freesat.
I have an HD Ready Smart TV, good quality aerial and a 2 feed Sky feed. Also have a Powerline adapter to connect to the internet.
Any recommendations?
I suspect the only programmes I will miss on Sky are True Movies and the other free movie channels.0 -
