accident on holiday - help please

Hi,
my daughter went on holiday in July last year with a group of friends, to Kavos, Corfu. She stood on some glass and had to have her foot stitched at the local clinic. They charged her 120 euros at the time. She asked if there was anything else to pay and they said no, but this morning we've had a letter from a debt collection agency Eventus Plus Ltd, Po Box 2749, Coulsdon, CR5 1ZQ asking for another £351.69

There is also a 2nd request for £167.81 for another injury that my daughter says wasn't hers. I believe her as she would have told me at the time.

Anybody heard of this company? Does this sound right? is this what usually happens?
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

Did she have travel insurance? Or show her EHIC card?
  • She did have travel insurance through AXA and we're going to phone them later today. The excess was £100 but she already paid that at the time.

It just seems a strange way of doing things to me. She would have paid there and then and did ask if it was fully paid and was told yes it was. So why didn't they say then? Also, not sure if it's too late to claim on insurance as it was 7 months ago now.

Was this a private clinic or a public clinic? Problem with a lot of these places is you go to a private clinic not a public one so its down to you to pay rather than being covered by the EHIC

    See http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad/countryguide/Pages/healthcareinGreece.aspx
  • From watching that programme on channel 5 "What happens in Kavos"(!) it seems as though the clinic on the strip is private and so treatment is not covered by the EHIC. Does she have receipts as she could then claim for the costs, minus £100 excess, from her travel insurance company. If she doesn't have them could you ontact the clinic and ask for an invoice as I think you could proberly use this to reclaim costs?

Why don't you forward this to AXA? They have accepted your claim and paid out. As this is related to the same incident let them fathom out whether this invoice is genuine or not and deal with it.

Srely she was given an invoice and receipt at the time which would show the charges and that they had been paid in full?

  • the same thing has just happened to me, I went to Kavos in July 2013 as well and have just received medical bills for a further 300 euros even though I paid the 120 euro excess on my insurance its ridiculous!!

Similar thing happened to my son last July.

Invoice received for £360 today from Eventus Plus yesterday. He had travel insurance who he contacted whilst in the clinic and they said it was sorted.

Chasing up the insurers today !!

What was the outcome of this. I've recently received a letter from this company saying I owe over £400 after I too received medical treatment in Kavos... 3 YEARS AGO!!! I paid my insurance excess and looked over the paper work which seemed fine at the time. Seeing as it was 3 years ago I can't remember who I done my insurance with. These charges seem dodgy to me.
