    Without white lines what other secondary checks can be done?

    With a fixed focus lens its easy as chips to calculate distances in an image.

    Actually it isn't, having done work around this you need something jn the photo you know the distance of that you can use to gauge how far a car has travelled. However, due to the zooming/shortening effects of lenses it's quite difficult to estimate a distance - and for an offence that can end up in court it has to be absolutely accurate or the evidence won't stand a chance.
