Gatso Experts Please!!

Hi All

I wondered if someone could help me - this morning i went past a speed camera at the end of my road which i go past 5-6 times a day. Today there were about 500 yards of roadworks which started at the very same point the camera does. The control lights were out and a car opposite was flashing me to come but it was dark and I couldn't see anything. The car behind beeped me and in my fluster I went through the camera at about 34-35 and it flashed me.

Now - I'm wondering if anyone know is this would end in a fine for the following reasons:

1. I was actually in the opposite lane when i went past the camera as the roadworks made me have to pull out

2. The white lines on the road behind the camera, while not totaly obscured, had a bollard covering one bit, a bit of workmen stuff scattered around etc.

Any help please - cos i'm absolutely bricking it

  • At that speed you'd be looking at a course anyway. The white lines are only a secondary check and would mean fighting it at court.

If you're the registered keeper it's a case of waiting 14 days.
  • Would i still get a course if i'm on 9 points?

The number of points on a licence is not a factor when a SAC is offered. If you have 9 points it sounds like you could do with one.

Check your speedo against a GPS. An indicated 35 is most likely an actual 32-33.

They generally don't do anything if you're below 35, assuming this is a 30 limit.
  • Would it still flash though if I was under 35?

You've been flashed by a speed camera, the whys and wherefores are pretty much irrelevant and nobody on here can tell you with any certainty what is going or likely to happen.

Why not just wait to see what comes in the post and maybe then come back and ask questions if you have any. With 9 points already though I'd have thought you'd be a bit more careful.

In the days of cuts some forces put as many as the can on courses and acpo guidelines are ignored these days too.

Are you saying that the if white lines were missing, you can still get done?
