How long until a moron joins this thread and defends using them in non-foggy conditions?

I'm not going to defend using them because (a) it's illegal, (b) they're pretty much pointless if adjusted properly and (c) they obviously annoy people, which is something it's better not to do on the roads.

But what I've always had trouble understanding is why people get so annoyed by them. They're nounted low and, if set properly, have an even lower cut-off than a low beam, so dazzle isn't a real problem with them.

There are far more badly adjusted headlights out there likely to dazzle you, not to mention HIDs that blind you as they go over every bump and pot-hole on our increasingly poor roads.

It almost seems like one of those things where people just look for reasons to be annoyed by other drivers rather than thinking "silly sod" and getting on with it.

It's not so much the dazzle, although some do when not set up properly, it's more the issue that the more light thrown from an oncoming vehicle the less effective you're night vision becomes.

Fog lights are not a problem for me but those daytime lights are just a nuisance.

Doesn't really matter because they provide more light for you to see by - in fact, they're usually more effective at lighting the road for you than they are for the person using them because they (should) throw light in exactly the area (in front and left of their headlights) that you'll have trouble seeing thanks to glare.

And, since you're presumably on low beam, as soon as they're past and your mains go back on, the night vision effect is cancelled. Same princple as switching to low beam in street-lit areas then hittig high as you pass the last light.

eta: Badly adjusted lights of ANY sort, on the other hand, should be instant seize and crush of the driver concerned. No point crushing the vehicle cos they'll only get another and doo the same again :D

Because they think they look cool.

Front fogs don't bother me too much but rear fogs when not required drive me nuts.

I personally think it's bacause they are ignorant p*gs thinking I have to be noticed and sod the rest.

Or because they dont know how to operate their car. Old car had a physical switch, god knows how many years my mother drove around with the fog lights on

The ones I saw saw were new - one was a 4x4

I get much more annoyed by rear fogs light, much brighter than rear driving lights and easily confused for brake lights. If the car you are following has them on it is really annoying.
  • Think this has been discussed to death on here.
