I have just found out that Greggs the bakers has different prices for goods in their shops. In Benfleet we pay more for some items than people in Basildon 5 miles away.I have been in touch with their customer services and I am currently kicking up a stink over their policy of doing this.Greggs was the company who took the government to task over the Pastie tax.Why are they charging different prices in their shops.Has anybody else realised this?Ask in your local Greggs if their prices are the cheapest. If not complain!

Move to Basildon, or contact the Basildon store and advise them to raise their prices in line with those in Benfleet. Parity restored, everyones a winner0 -
People get really excited by Greggs, don't they? And that other place with the smelly sangers - Subway. Who knew cheap pastry goods and sandwiches could inspire such passion amongst the masses?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I used to work at a motorway service station. The price of a Burger King was more than double that of a standard high street one, the coffees in the coffee shop were again, double the price of their high street equivalent, ditto the M&S, WHSmith etc.
You'll also often find that eateries in theme parks, zoos etc. are very expensive too (ever bought a bag of crisps at Disney?! Yeouch!)
It's all down to what someone will pay. If people will pay the higher price, why lower it?
I've had a very good 40% off before0 -

It was Moto I used to work at. Thankfully, staff had a food allowance on a card.
Thankfully, I've not needed to go to a service station since I worked in one
Great tip though, will pass it on to hubby as he's often up and down the motorways now his crazy boss has let him loose with a van0 -
It's down to franchising. The same reason that McDs prices can vary slightly from store to store.
Last year I had a voucher for some free Greggs doughnuts, but every branch I visited (this is the North.. we have about 10 Greggs' in one town) didn't stock these doughnuts.. rendering the voucher worthless.
When I emailed Greggs to complain I was told that all Greggs in my town were run by a franchise that decided not to stock that particular product.
Odd, they don't have franchises on the high streetDo you offer franchises for Greggs shops?
We have recently set up a franchise arrangement with MOTO Motorway Services, to open 30 Greggs shops at their sites around the U.K. as a franchise.
This is exclusive to MOTO and we do not offer franchise opportunities to individuals at this time.0 -
I thought that it was widespread common knowledge that any retailers' prices varied according to location and relative competition...? Hey ho - unless it's a motorway place the difference is hardly likely to be vast so, personally, I wouldn't bother complaining.
As an aside, I think the stuff looks revolting too, anyway. I couldn't face the thought of eating that anonymous grey goo (probably eye-holes, ear-holes and a***-holes) wrapped in stodgy pastry... _pale_0 -
I've just bought a lovely tiger loaf (thick-sliced) for 85p at Greggs. Mind you, I live in a right scuzzy part of town!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

Ah not all Gregg's do two for a pound
I only found that out when I had a confused customer
Honestly I have no idea what other shops charge, it's not like I've ever been told, nor do I visit enough to find out!
And to be honest if you complained to me there's not really anything I can do, the prices are set by higher ups that we lowly assistants have no contact withThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
