Our local pub used to be called the Cherry Orchard. I can only assume it's historic, as there are no cherry trees now. Which may be why it's now an Indian restaurant/bar

Well done on getting stuck into the bathroom :T

    Very Chekhovian, GG :)

I've noticed the truth of what people say about crops - one year they're great, another year things don't work at all - this year, it's cherries :) I've not picked any yet, by the time things cooled down I really wanted to do some weeding - there's a bit right at the start of the garden where I've been my own worst enemy, put some broken slates down as a half hearted mulch, and a big pot of herbs has been on the soil, which is fine, but the grass has grown up behind it and its really matted. Whole thing was horrible, but well on the way to being sorted out now. My beautiful scabious have survived years stuck in pots, they're in flower, they *are* going in the ground over the weekend. And then I'm getting the cherries :)

This is my last day of Kaspersky Anti Virus - I'm going for free Avast from now on, finances being what they are :) I've spent the morning recovering - what they *don't* tell you is that you automatically download it on Chrome, which I didn't want. The laptop objected, two restarts in safe mode later I managed to uninstall Chrome and keep Avast, tagging it on to Firefox. Boy ... I wasn't sat in front of the computer the whole time, of course, but it does mean continual recces to check ... I'll have a look first thing tomorrow, to check all's well.

    And now ... cherries!

  • Oh yes, cherries and olives, two of my favourites too:j

A friend of OH gave us a bag of fresh figs last year. He has two fig trees planted in a sheltered south-facing spot and they are prolific fruiters. Last time OH was round there he gave him a pot with a tiny fig tree in which we've planted but it's still only about a foot tall. Not sure how long it will be before we get any fruit from it but to be honest I'm not mad keen on figs anyway:o. Now if we had a date palm, that would be heaven:j. Must investigate possibilities.

And yes, eclectic describes this thread perfectly:T. It's like Forrest Gump's 'box of chocolates':rotfl:

I love fresh figs, but I only discovered that last year.

I'd only had dried figs before.

We've had a good strawberry crop this year, and we're looking to extend our fruit planting next year. Cherries, blueberries and cranberries are looking to be the favourites so far. Figs seem rather tropical and exotic, but we have a sunny, southwest facing patio, so it could work.

Hi folks! I'm coming to love home grown fruit, definitely :) Figs grow wild round here, you guys - self sown from gardens - and I think you're as far south as I am, roughly speaking - I saw a huge one in a churchyard last week with loads of fruit already, I bet it'll be fine.

The cherries are foraged, from council land - not many ready yet, but I just wanted to practise with the cherry stoner, and its good - its something you need to do sat round a table, chatting, but its really excellent :) Handful of cherries in the freezer now :)
