hey Karma - sounds like lots of questions on the French apartment - good to get them set down in black and white - and in a list! - so you can work through them systematically. What are your options? Sell up? Let it yourself? Continue as you are? Move there? (only kidding!)
is it time for some serious pros and cons listing for all the possibilities?0 -
Gosh, lots of questions about the French apartment there, but how very sensible, starting from where you are without looking back
Loving your plans for getting your priorities done! :j0 -
Just been having a conversation on here about my French apartment, and this is the last thing, which I just wrote:
"I'm getting a bit spooked about money, I have to say, so I'll write a couple of sentences about the French apartment. It was the most monumental waste of money. There. At today's rate of exchange for the euro mortgage, I only owe £27,700, but I'm still subsidising it at the rate of thousands of pounds a year, its never broken even, let alone made me money. Terrible, terrible deal. I should never have done it. Well, its on the last strait now, and I need to get my finger out, put it right at the top of my to-do list, and research, very quickly, what to do about marketing for the future, as the people who had it on their books want to know".
Taking advice from my sig, no use in beating myself up - start from here, and figure out the best way forward. I need to:
- check with the marketing people - whats the deal they're offering in the future.
These would be the marketing people with the track-record of success that you can rely on?- look at the deal I signed when I bought the thing - when am I allowed to sell without losing the VAT exemption?
- other people who bought apartments in the same block have already told the marketing peeps that they don't want to continue on. Why? Either they're selling, or they figure they can rent it out better themselves. Or they know better marketers.
Be careful about selling. If your neighbours are selling too, you'll have a lot of supply outstripping demand, and the prices will race to the bottom.Bleep. Its a big topic! And the marketers want a decision by the 15th of this month.
Because of course, if you were to turn up on the 16th of the month, they'd refuse to take your money.

Hi KC,
Lots of questions there which seem to lead to other questions / things to establish. As you say first things first find out when you can sell - but also, and i guess you've decided this - is that what you want to do?
If you can sell as ZTD points out - what is the market like / are others selling / what price do you need to achieve? Are there any other fees involved?
If others are not selling *what* are they doing? Who are the other marketing bods and what can they offer? Compare with current company.
I agree with others, great to start from this point and look forward - something i could really do with learning to do btw - and also that you have broken down the task into questions that are manageable as individual tasks to be ticked off

Thanks all! Yep, there's a decided supply and demand issue, thats true - and even though my mortgage is at 1.5% per annum, there's still 4.5 years left to run on the thing, with humongous penalties for early repayments. So basically it *has* to pay its way.
My first thought is to get shut of it - when I first went into the deal, offplan, I was still earning mega-oodles, and the financial horizon was sunny and calm. Hmmm. Not so now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: its comical really. Two things I need to do today:
1. send an email to the marketers asking about their terms for the future.
2. hunt out and join some forums for foreign owners of apartments in France - English speaking ones, anyway
Right now, though, I have to prepare for the chiropodist at my local GP centre, seeing to a by product of the constant viruses. Last visit, so hopefully there won't be any repeat fees.
I appreciate the input, folks, thank you for posting. I have sun here, by the way :j hope everyone else does too :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Oops! Well, I logged on feeling like I wanted to do a victory dance, and I shall, but I've done neither of the numbered points in the post above
 I'm a terrible person who'd probably stand at the Pearly Gates and ask whether they have ground coffee inside :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So, what I **have** done:
- I've traded - not just looked, I traded - its been a funny old week on the markets, and although I trade the hourly chart, I ignored a small blip I could see perfectly clearly on the five minute chart, so I lost :rotfl: and I really do feel quite victorious about it - because it confirms my suspicion about whats important. And I didn't explode from fear, or melt into a puddle on the floor, so I'm good to go.
- my chiropodist is pleased with me, so I'm pleased with myself, and she and I are hooking up as our online businesses are synergistic.
- I finally rang the builder and he was in, he answered the phone, he's popping round tomorrow to finalise things.
- email sent confirming and building on another recent local contact.
- transferred money in preparation for writing the builder a cheque - its getting real!
- posted a whole new page on the cat blog. About cats and big cats in Tutankhamun's tombI've been drafting it, and editing the pix, for ages, and I'm pretty chuffed with it - but I've also been chatting with a small business owner on here, and her comments have brought me back to the main focus - products! Must focus on that.
- conversations about London events with family for April, which has taken **ages**, but is very worthwhile.
:j:j:j
Part of me wants to go out right now to do a bit in the garden, but I think I need a cup of tea after all that lot, and it will be dark by thenIts actually some Alexanders I bought from Amazon that I'm thinking of, so I may at least open them and see how they're doing.

You sound busy!
And productive!!!!
It sounds like its coming together for you.
SUN! WOWSER
There's something about how you're posting at the moment - its so wonderfully optimistic and you're making so many things that you've worked so hard for happen! (And I know we don't see how hard you've really worked, but I know that you do work so dedicated!)

:T Wot Pippi and Cheery said !

Awww ... <blushes> thank you! How lovely! I don't know quite what to call it - taking centre stage in my own life, the conscious living that Cheery's blogged about, an awareness of This Is It, and I must admit there's a little soupcon of "sod it", as my grandad would have said
I'm pretty passionate about lots of weirdly different types of stuff - catching sight of a bird singing in a tree, the odd double rainbow, rescuing worms from some invasive roots that I'm pulling out, admiring 3000 year old carvings, catching sight of a carving of a cat on the Cutty Sark, planning a photo marathon around London hopefully for this weekend, reducing and recycling, or looking at the moon and watching for the ISS. I love it all :j and this is who I am :j
Right now, for instance, I'm back online because I've just been booking some tickets for me and my sister to go to that Viking exhibition at the British Museum - and researching how to book tickets to see the Cheapside Hoard, plus what might be an appropriate permanent (and free) exhibition for us to accompany my mum to, when she's passing through London on her way home from France. Can't get Viking tickets for that day, but she likes Vikings :rotfl: and she likes textiles - so I'd like to find some Scandinavian textiles, please :j just putting it out there to the universe :A
I'm also putting it out to the universe that I'd like my financial research to pay off, pretty please, and tomorrow would be a really good time for that to start. And since the universe helps those that help themselves, I'll sign off, to go to Bedfordshire, so I have lots of energy for tomorrow. Hope everybody else sleeps well too, and wakes up bright and breezy tomorrow :kisses3::kisses3::kisses3:2023: the year I get to buy a car0
