Thats the one! $60 though? No! £25.50 delivered! I'm still sure it'll never repay itself financially, but for a prepper-lite like me, its ideal. And it's pretty
(sorry) :rotfl:
I totally agree ... it reaches my prepper genes as well ... as well as my future retirement needs plans ... just trying to think should I get one now or in the future lol ... saw the oven as well ... I wanna :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Ooh! Ovens! Don't buy one yet ... did you see Ed was asking about Mother Earth News? Well I was having a mooch around it, and realised that a lot of the plans of projects are on a site called builditsolar, totally free pdfs that are very detailed about how to build stuff. Check this out for a solar oven:
http://solarcooking.wikia.com/wiki/Box_cookers#Box_cookers_with_reflectors
and this is the cooking section of builditsolar:
http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/Cooking/cooking.htm#Cooking
The oven is basically a couple of boxes with a piece of plastic over the top. I'm building a haybox/dehydrator that could double as that - its lined with a roll of that stuff you put behind radiators? and when I had some of my double glazing renewed, I kept the old windows, so I could use those as a free piece of glass; piece of cardboard on top to act as an additional reflector (it takes a while to make sense of the plans, I must admit) and I'd be in business.
I love this stuff2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

...RT, what's the least-time-intensive hummus recipe you know?...
KC - hummus is EASY! - and cheap - I'll dig out the recipe books over the weekend & post the quickest one!carbootcrazy wrote: »... But your low-fat pie/quiche crust sounds ideal and if it's better in the processor than by traditional methods it might be worth digging it out of the cupboard. Any chance of the recipe, please?...
CBC - the recipe if I remember correctly is from my M00sew00d cookbook which was my food bible during uni! - I'll dig it out find the recipe for you over the weekend!
Today I'm in the big smoke - it's proving to be a glorious sunny and already warm day! I have discovered that the room I'm in does not have a functional air circ, so may have to leave the door open - not ideal as it's near the kitchen, so there is constant traffic! On that note - energy bar at the ready and cuppa joe fueling me up & I'm set until lunch!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 8 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 16 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!0 -
How does cardboard act as a reflector? White cardboard?
Suppose you could pop on some tin foil as well...0 -
:hello: Hi RT
The quickest recipe would be brill, thank you for that! I'm collecting quick recipes - the banana bread I do is really quick, really nice, and uses *one* egg - tastes as good as other recipes too, and I muck about with the flour and the sugar tooits bombproof
I don't think I'd like to be in a non air conditioned office on a day like today! Its beautiful! My sunkettle is in a sunny window, tho the sun has come round to the back garden already, so I could put it outside (I'm not going to put it in the front garden, that would be tempting fate!).
My long session work is today instead of tomorrow, so not much more to be done than check around my normal websites in the morning, and get ready for work, I'm very low on energy today so I need to take care. Though I *do* have some finance admin to do if my brain ever wakes up2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Enjoy the sun, it is overcast and damp in Glasgow0
