Awww, CBC :kisses3: of course I take notice! We've been kicking around mse a long time, and anyway, I really appreciate anyone taking an interest and thanking or posting and especially thinking about me - thats lovely in any case, and what *you* said was especially lovely :A
I finished paid work a little while ago, went a little bit of a walk locally to clear my head, but didn't want to go into the town centre - and fortunately my local tiny-Morrisons, at the end of my road, do a kilo bag of frozen mixed veg for £1, same price as Iceland. I'd prefer not to have the mixed veg, but it saved me the Iceland hassle, so I'm happy.
The other thing I've realised is how empty my diary is next week (of work, that is). Weirdly, that makes me happypartly in a bad way ("if I'm ill, it won't affect many clients") and partly in a good way ("my time is my own, and the book is nearly publishing-ready") and partly so that my energy can be concentrated where its really needed (the Reiki day, and the first of my birthday celebrations on the Saturday
).
Same focus applies to my new potential income streams: I'm going to focus on the book and its marketing measures, its so close, it seems silly to push the cat designs as well right now, I might do a bit of mindless stuff like resizing photos, but thats it. The focus is on the book: layout, pix, whatever.
And with yet *another* :coffee: some ranging about on mse2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Ranging about on mse has paid dividends :j
I looked at the Pensions board and lost the will to live in about 3 minutes, but the Over 50s moneysaving is deffo the one for me (I've been there before, but not for long). Just for my own future reference, there's this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/94140 It starts off before the financial crisis, but the sense of living in Spain cheaply is brilliant. Gally's on the end of it, mind you2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

What's that? A mortgage application? :rotfl:0 -

Another night of "ooh, I slept right through", which is gloriousand it hasn't rained for maybe 3 days now, which is also glorious :rotfl: Not that I've completed any of the troublesome things in yesterday's paragraph/list, but at least I've taken care of myself
I also managed to work out which Christmas card I'm sending to who/whom, and I'm not as short of them as I thought I was :j So today's list:
- collect my mum's Xmas present from Waitrose in next town *if* they haven't sent it back to the shop. If they have, considering how often I've contacted them by email and by phone (4 times), there'll be trouble.
- pick up another 10 Xmas cards, that'll do me till the sales.
- Egyptology! About dating ... it always brings out the crazies, although there's a lot of evidence now that pre-dynastic Egypt was pretty advanced, it ended 5,000 years ago, when classical Egypt gets up and running. But lots of people want to take the start of classical Egypt back to 15,000 years ago. Lots of fun :j
- wine and mince pies afterwardsvery essential I attend, y'know
Thats it. Its a hard life, innit2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Glad you're feeling better this morning - a good nights sleep is very restorative
A couple of days ago you postedWhat languages do you like, Goldie, or what eras in history? I know I'll be in France for a while - my own flat, my sister's cottage, Space University, my niece-in-law is French, but I don't love France the way I love Spain/Greece/Canada.
But I did enjoy French - I was quite good at one time, but I've lost a lot of vocabulary now, unfortunately. But I can still read French and make general sense of it, so that's a help.
I've enjoyed visiting the Mediterranean countries like Spain and Italy. I've also enjoyed my time in Greece as well. I've never been to Canada. I've visited the US and loved it, but I couldn't live there. I imagine Canada to be the best things about the US, but slightly more British! My cousin lives over there in Nova Scotia, so I hope to visit him one day.
As for history, I am very interested in this subject. My main area of interest is English history, from the Conquest up until the Tudors. I did this era of history at school, and the interest has stayed with me ever since.
Although I do delve into other periods of history too. I prefer social history, rather than accounts of battles. People are much more interesting than wars.
Not adverse to a bit of Egyptology either. We've seen the pyramids at Giza, but Cairo is so close, and it was so, so busy. I'd like to do an Upper Nile cruise, that'd be interestingEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I hope the family business gets sorted without too much upset. That sort of thing is always terrible.
Squirrel xPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
All this talk of languages has made me wish I'd taken the trouble to learn 'new' ones after my school days were over. I spent a year living in Norway in my early 20s but hardly learned a word as everyone spoke impeccable English. I did French to A Level (decades ago:o) and can still manage to understand it in written form but I always had problems with understanding rapidly spoken French when I went to France on holiday. As for the radio and TV, total bafflement:o
I loved Latin at school, it was so logical and straightforward once the 'rules' were mastered but I hated the literature that we had to study, all about wars and battles and bloodthirsty or tactical stuff. I don't suppose there were many classical women writers producing much 'girly' Latin literature:eek:.0 -
