And the panic when you did go to take it out only to find it had created a vacuum that you couldn't get your finger under to break :rotfl:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

LOL yes. As well as it being a bit of a faff it was too much for my poor cervix to take.
However, I did get to know my 'inner parts' rather well and I know well what my cervix looks/ed like.
Did you ever try the vaginal sponge? It was much easier to use. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I had a mirena coil for 2 and half years until approx October last year. Didn't have a problem with it so I thought, calmed the periods down, period pains weren't as bad and I had it fitted without any pain relief & everything went nicely.
Gave me a very short temper though. Everything annoyed me and made me angry and I snapped at everyone for stupid reasons. This wasn't just when I was due on - it was all the time! If I didn't snap at least once during the day, it was a rare good day!
Removed it as I started suspecting it was this as everything else was fine - was just the irrational anger. I'm not an angry person tbh and wasn't like it before - it had seemed to gradually get worse. I (and everyone else!) could tell the difference immediately! I was a much nicer person all round and easier to get on with - didn't snap at stupid things.
It helped massively - but keep an eye open and weigh up the pros and cons for each. Everyone reacts differently. If the coil isn't for you, it can always be removed.Princess Sparklepants0 -
Lol, the pinging around the bathroom stories take me back a bit! I used a diaphragm for over twenty years and I remember the night it pinged from my grasp and went straight under the door of the toilet cubicle in the ladies loos in the student union. I had to retrieve it from under the interested glance of the entire queue.....
Apart from that I got on really well with it. I didn't have any particular sensitivity issues with the spermicide cream and though it could get a bit messy at times I also used it as a sort of early Mooncup which helped cut down mess at other times. I never had a contraceptive failure with it either and OH and I are a fertile combination, three of my five pregnancies caught happened in the first month of trying. It was nice too that I could go straight from using contraception to trying for a baby without worrying about having to wait for my cycle to settle down again after hormonal contraception. OH liked it too, he didn't have to bother with any of it and he said he could never tell it was there.
I have a Mirena now, due to heavy periods after my last child. It's an interesting process getting it put in. I didn't find it painful but I've had children, I'm told it's more uncomfortable if you haven't had a vaginal birth to stretch the cervix out a bit? What I did feel was the sensation of them rummaging around down there when they put it in. Not very nice tbh, a bit toe curling. And then I spotted for the first six months after which was a bit irritating. I love it now though, I'm onto my second one.Val.0 -
I had the coil fitted (not the hormonal one, didn't want hormones) about 5 years ago, the fitting was VERY painful and I had a really really bad 16 months with it afterwards (and yes, I don't know why I had it that long, I just kept thinking it would get better the next month...). Very heavy periods, tiredness, mood changes and worse...
Now I use the diaphragm and couldn't be happier, can't believe I didn't try it before..
My advice is to try the diaphragm as you have nothing to lose , if you don't like it you can try the coil.0 -
Hi I don't have any advice but I'm on cezarette aswell, and it didn't even cross my mind until now that maybe that is the reason for my bad moods and short temper!
I have been on it for a year.
I don't like the idea of using hormones anymore as it's affecting my mood etc.
Def don't like the idea of the coil I have heard so many horror stories!
I had the implant and I was almost constantly on for months at a time.

I'm considering moving to non-hormonal contraceptives too, can't take oestrogen as borderline for migraines and progesterone makes me weepy and bad tempered, really noticed it going back on the injection just before christmas.
So its copper coil or diaphram, I have heard 2 horror stories about the copper coil and men who are rather generously endowed (desperately thinking of a polite way to say it lol) and the wire sticking into them painfully during sex. Has anyone else heard of this? I imagine it wouldn't help the mood any more than fitting the diaphram!:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
I was one of the unlucky one who got a wandering coil, mine ended up perforating my uterus and lodging itself in my abdomen near my spine - didn't hurt going in, but the abdominal surgery to get it out needed a GA
Supposed to be very rare though0 -

.... and that is the very reason I was afraid to have the coil fitted. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
