I'm willing to bet your excess that you've chosen to view documents and online, and if you log in you'll probably see the cancellation notices. If not, you have the right to complain; they have to send a RTA compliant notice through the agreed medium.

Why would they phone you? Insurance premiums are already inflated, why would they employ another 150 people or so to ring customers who haven't sent NCD.

If you've genuinely sent your NCD then clearly it's got mixed up in the post. What address did you send it to? I tend to email them a proof of NCD straight away and if I've not heard back ill give them a call.

Yes I was able to excess them online. They told me to send my NCD which I did to:

    FREEPOST RSJB-RZZY-HTJB
    Tesco Bank Customer Service
    POBOX 276
    Newcastle upon Tyne
    NE122BT

That was the last I heard from them. It stated that if I don't hear from them then everything was fine. There was no cancelation notices whatsoever and nothing telling me my policy was cancelled.

They already have staff working for them so a 60 second phone call on an extremely important matter would make no difference to them. Every other insurer would contact you before cancelling so I would have thought a major company like Tesco could do it? Also when I spoke to them yesterday I asked if I could have emailed them my NCD, but they said no which I find very strange.

Thought insurance companies had to write to you at least 7 days prior to cancellation.
You cant be expected to log onto you account everyday to make sure its still ok.
OP you should get this post moved over to the insurance forum.

Strange, I change my car insurance supplier almost every year (just go with the best value on a compare site) and I've never been asked to prove my NCD.

OP, why did you pay £200 extra when Hastings were only £10 dearer?
    It's someone else's fault.

Nothing strange about it at all.

This business of sending proof of no claims is something I do not understand really as they state that they all share information surely this is something they can check for themselves?

When we changed insurers on one of our cars last time we had to get a letter from the previous insurers detailing the no claims. They would not accept the letter because it was a multi car policy and addressed to the main 'policyholder' even though it clearly stated the name of the person who the no claims was for.

Oh had to speak to a supervisor and point out how ridiculous it was they they were refusing it and in the end they agreed to accept it.

So some companies do make a meal of this.

Probably had to pay £200 more because of his policy being cancelled?

    I agree.

It makes no sense that they do not really as they spend so much time giving out quotes and getting you to take out the insurance with them in the first place. I would of thought a quick call to be good business sense.

Well it's strange to me as since the compare websites have started I've never been asked for proof. It's not strange to you as you have been asked. I'd just imagined that proof would be asked for at the time of a claim and then if no proof is supplied then wave goodbye to the claim.

Strangely enough (must stop using that word;)) I used to be with Swift and one year the premium went up by nearly £100 so I cancelled. Went on to go compare and signed up with Swift at almost the same price as the previous premium.

About 5 years ago my daughter went online and bought insurance from Tesco. Two months later she was pulled over by the Police as it had been picked up by their ANPR car that she had no insurance. I know she had insurance because I paid for it with my credit card at the time.
It appears that as she was filling in the on-line form that if you scroll down the page it can move the parts of the pages with drop-down menus (dates etc)
Oh, we had bought insurance but the documents showed a commencement date of 02/05/2008 when we had arranged it from 02/03/2008. Even though the Tesco site said money would only be taken on commencement of insurance cover in this case they took it three months before. Tesco weren't much help at all.
Luckily the officer who pulled her over was a human being and allowed my other daughter to sort out insurance on-line and he didn't seize the car.
Still had to declare it every time she wanted insurance. On top of the 6 points and £200 fine.

You have to go through everything with a fine tooth comb, yet insurance companies can refuse to pay out if you make the slightest error.

Never used Tesco insurance for any of our cars since

After previously having a song and dance about just this with Direct Line (after moving from Tesco) about proof of NCB and First Direct not accepting a laser print out of the email confirmation from Tesco (there's a thread here about it if you want to read it all), I always send my NCB proof by Special Delivery. Yes, it costs about £6.00 but they can't deny receipt. I also ask that they return the original to me giving me further proof that they have seen it.

Insurance companies are mainly robbers. I wouldn't trust mine if they told me that today was Thursday.
