    Pollycat,

Yes - I think it does help someone from USA who happen to browse these forum. Again remember - if they fell prey for this criminal and fraudulent website (as the law enforcement in US calls them) - then it becomes more relevant.

So the information is relevant. Since you have not replied in your post what title should I change to - is there anything I can help you with. Thank you for using copycat thread today - have a nice day. :o

You titled this thread "Steps to take if you have been ripped-off by a copycat government website" which to me should be a list of things you should do if you have been ripped off by a copycat website.

It may have started out that way but by posting random & irrelevant links you have muddied the waters so much that I can't see it being of help to anyone.

    Quote from your OP:

Do you really think you are helping consumers who have been ripped off by posting random links to US websites?

What is the point of posting non-related links, such as the one in your post #2114.

This core matter of this thread is always about copycat website looting customers fraudulently - be it US or USA.

I am empathetic to your suggestion to improve this copycat thread, Pollycat - but you haven't told me what the change of title should look like in your opinion to help the readers?

But please do remember, my thread is meant to be read by people who have 'lost' money or concerned about clicking copycat websites, Pollycat. I always welcome suggestions tho':) . Thank you.

Well as you have now decided that US and USA is the problem, maybe best to use the above quote!

I think you've missed the point that this is a UK website.
MoneySavingExpert.com is the UK's biggest consumer website with about 15 million users a month.

Is your advice about contacting bank/credit cards relevant to US citizens?

Will your link to Citizens Advice Bureau (also a UK organisation) help a US citizen?

Does the National Trading Standards cover the US?

I can't see your original post helping anyone from the US - despite your protestations to the contrary. :rotfl:

hpuse, you need to give up now.

The US / USA is a completely different place laws-wise to the UK.

What works in one won't work in the other.

Can we get a board guide to lock this thread now?

I think a clear majority of MSE forum members would be sympathetic to this request.

A forum or discussion board is a place where people come and discuss common objective/concerns/topics irrespective of geographic boundaries.

As far as I am aware there is nothing in the rule book of MSE forums that states discussion thread or topic must not spill out to other countries.

Based on that - I would strongly urge you not ask me to give up posting here. That is simply not going to happen. Hope that message is loud, clear and concise.

There is an option for you to report this thread to the forum admins.

I also strongly think if FBI or any other law enforcement agency brands someone who hosts and charges fraudulent fees from copycat websites as criminals. So it does bear contextual relevance to the very subject matter of this thread.

By posting the above news - I am not posting anything controversial of hurting anyone's sentiments. Or, am I?

In my personal opinion, this is something the law enforcement in the UK should look into, too :-)

    Peace.

But if the laws aren't the same and organisations don't represent the same people, then there is no common objective/concerns/topics.

But you are claiming that 'your' thread will help US citizens.

Maybe you could answer the following questions:

If the answer is 'no' then your 'advice' will not help any random US citizen who happens to stumble upon 'your' thread.

    Dear Pollycat, Mothballswet et all

This thread has evolved and now mainly serves the following purpose of discussion irrespective of geographic regions.

    - Spreading awareness of government copycat websites (irrespective of geographic regions)

    - How various laws and regulation now treats/treated this matter with 'urgency' (for e.g Google banning adverts /Trading standards and arrests made in UK)

    - Tough legal stance and classification as 'criminalistic' of this trading activity ( as shown in the example USA)

    - Last by not least, how financially it affects someone (for e.g CCJs) and various invaluable help offered by Fermi and others (do not forget to click thanks to him)

If you have questions/concerns on the above- please feel free to report the post or reply here, as always - I will try my best to help..
    Thank you.
