It's just we're starting to save from scratch, OH earns more than me and has less outgoings so it's not too bad but ATM we're going to pay deposit for the venue and then save like mad until we need to start paying for things x
My H2B and I both had some savings but not a lot, we used that to booked the venue and deposits for photographer etc. Only after that did my dad tell me that he has a wedding fund for us which I totally did not expect! But I haven't even touched that money yet, will only need it when everyone needs paid nearer the time.
We had intended to completely pay for the whole thing ourselves but with my dad and his mum and dad contributing we won't need as much. I still fully intend to save as much as possible so we can start married life as debt free as possible!
I earn a pittance compared with my H2B but I'm a better saver than him. I managed to stick some of his money away without him even knowing! :rotfl:0 -
We've got a meeting booked with the wedding coordinator on the 1st Feb. are there things I should be asking that people wouldn't normally think of? The journey is 40mins away and we are time poor so this meeting is quite important in terms of making the most of it?

Cake - I am NOT (absolutely refuse!) to pay the going rate for something that people will either scoff whilst drunk dropping half on the floor or will be left because people are too full/busy to eat it! So I'll probably get a plain chocolate and plain sponge and somehow decorate them myself I'm not overly fussed.
Favours and invitations I'll do myself, I love crafty things and we only need 10 day invites, 20 evening invites and 30 favours.
Flowers, I'd love to be able to do them myself but I'd be too scared of making a hash of them, and table decor I'll do myself x
You can get loads of pre-made decorations so it should be easy enough to decorate some plain cakesI was originally going to pay a professional for mine as I'm a bit concerned about finding time to do it, the lack of work space in my kitchen, and getting it to the venue! I've had some offers of help already though so perhaps it is doable. If it all goes wrong it is only a cake at the end of the day and not worth getting that upset over.

I'll have to have a practice before the actual cake lol. But thats how I see it, it's only a blimming cake!

For us, Its simply, Being stubborn. We both believe in “what’s the point of paying people to do the things we can do” Attitude. This is subject to change, However we’re very lucky to have family & friends with amazing talents.
Things we plan on doing ourselves:-
Cake,
We do have a friend who is a baker, But putting £xxx amount for something that will be eaten - trod on, ect isn’t something I’m prepared to pay loads for. So if she comes to us with a bargain, A REAL bargain, then maybe we would decide against doing ourselves. Otherwise, Its nipping to the super market and getting creative.
Photographer.
Everyone has said we’re mad, But OH 16 yo sister is a budding photographer. She’s taking a college course, So she has offered her services for free.
Make up
That’s going to have to be professional to make this face suitable!
Hairdresser,
Family friend is a hair dresser - She is willing to discount her prices.
Decorations, invites, dress, shoes, bridesmaids dress, & essentials are from the world of bay!
Our aim is to only make two main expenses. The ceremony and the venue for the reception.
Congratulations all of you xxFuture goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.

I think it's lovely you're putting your trust in OH's little sister, and aside from the possibility of some amazing photo's you can always cherish them because of WHO took them as well!
I'm thinking of doing my own make up, as I trained as a Beautician, having said that I have zero imagination and stepping out of the realms of repetition doesn't sit comfortably with me, but I know if someone else did it for me I wouldn't be happy.
I'm going to ask my SIL if she could do my hair as I only want something simple, hopefully she'll say yes, shes a hairdresser.
It's my dress that I fear may cost alot, obviously it doesn't have to cost a bomb, but I am fussy, and really want to look nice. xxPAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03

For me, The wedding dress is going to be the problem. I already know what design I want. However, searching for something similar seems to turn nothing up. As I have time to find / source dress makers I’ve decided to head into the bridal stores and try dresses on. Lots of them. That way I have a last case backup.
I now have a new predicament.
We’re torn between a church wedding & a registry office. However, After speaking to both venues, It seems that there is pro’s & cons on both sides.
Registry office:-
Pro’s
Ceremony cheaper £220.
Lovely outdoors
Cons
More in travel est. £100
Less people able to attend
Licence £70
Church:
Pro’s
Cheaper Licence (Banns) £36
Less travel from home to church, church to rep £10
More people able to attend & share our day
Con’s
Church is in a housing estate
Cost more £421.
Having to a marriage prep course, Dates clash with OH working pattern.
Help! I feel I’m turning into bridzilla and the wedding isn’t even officially booked yet!Future goals:

Cost more £421. when you factor in transport for above option, this would then only be £100.

Talking of bridezilla, I've just sent a mammoth email to the possible venue with tonnes of questions, so that we have it in writing and also we won't bombard her whilst there, possibly forget to ask certain things and not take in the "atmosphere" of the place.
I feel so sorry for the woman reading it! She'll probably just overprice us so we are deterred and she won't have to deal with me lol xPAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03
