So we should be sorting stuff out now then? I could see his point to be honest- we've got 21 months to go and that feels like a very long time. I don't want to book a bunch of stuff to find next year I feel entirely different and want something else.

Ahh, sorry, my reply was to Fuzzy Duck who's getting married in a year and has planned nothing, not yourself.

In your situation my advice would be to think about what you want, get some brochures etc(use a dummy E-mail address and phone number though otherwise you'll find yourself getting pestered for the next 21 months).

In terms of planning though, i'd say most of it kicks off around the 14-12 month before wedding day mark when you start actually meeting with suppliers and venues and thinking about paying holding deposits

I am Fuzzy_Duck ;) Not getting married until October 2015 though, same as the OP.

I have been doing a fair bit of research mind. Doing a lot of DIYing, so there's a lot of stuff I don't actually need, and everything else I've got several vendors in mind, so if a few turn out to be unavailable I've got some others to fall back on.

I think your personal attitude to the wedding has to have some bearing on the planning. If you have a clear idea in mind of what you want, it makes sense to book as much as you can to ensure you get the suppliers you want. If you don't mind too much about the finer details you can leave it longer. There aren't actually that many things that absolutely need to be booked months in advance.

I'll be doing hair and make up, making the decorations, bouquet, boutonnieres, headpieces for me and the bridesmaids, centre pieces, cake topper and wedding cake. I may regret the last one!

If there's not already a DIY thread there totally should be one for when I get burned out and need to vent! :rotfl:

  • We are getting married April 2015 and although for me our engagement In Sept 2013 was very much a surprise, I knew a lot of what I wanted straight away so we set a date and I have been planning non stop ever since!

I do feel a little insane at times and have to ask others " Am I mad for getting/doing this so early?!"

    So far we have booked/purchased:

    Wedding Insurance
    Venue (Ceremony/Reception in same place)
    Photographer
    DJ
    Piper
    Registrar
    Chair Covers
    Stuff for making own invites
    Vases etc for centre pieces
    Ordered Custom Made Silk Flowers
    Artificial Rose Trees for Ceremony
Deposit paid for My dress (not being ordered until April this year)
    Bridal Shoes
Bridesmaid Dresses are picked just need to be ordered
Usher/Bridesmaid Thank You presents bought in Christmas Sale
    Favours

Everything else that is let to book/purchase has pretty much been decided on but feel it's too early to do it!

I haven't paid full price for one thing yet and like to pick things up when i see them on offer etc.

    I am mad aren't I?! :rotfl:

Check you out! That's amazing! I will probably do my own make up, I don't want my hair up, just down and loose locks with a flower in or something simple. Cake - I am NOT (absolutely refuse!) to pay the going rate for something that people will either scoff whilst drunk dropping half on the floor or will be left because people are too full/busy to eat it! So I'll probably get a plain chocolate and plain sponge and somehow decorate them myself I'm not overly fussed.

Favours and invitations I'll do myself, I love crafty things and we only need 10 day invites, 20 evening invites and 30 favours.

Flowers, I'd love to be able to do them myself but I'd be too scared of making a hash of them, and table decor I'll do myself x

That's impressive and very refreshing!!! I feel less crazy now lol. Don't mean to be cheeky but did you have money set aside for all the wedding? It's just we're starting to save from scratch, OH earns more than me and has less outgoings so it's not too bad but ATM we're going to pay deposit for the venue and then save like mad until we need to start paying for things x

  • I booked my venue for November 2014 in January 2013. Our caterer comes with the venue so they were locked in when we booked (we're choosing our menu in March), and we booked the DJ at the same time.

I'm currently looking at photographers - we have a top five to start so I'll decide which to go with based on availability and prices and then if all else fails look at some more - and florists. The next job is dresses; I have four shops I'd like to go to but my mum wants to come to the appointments with me so I'm waiting to hear back on her schedule! Then I just need to pick my colour scheme out of three choices, and I think we're pretty much there.

I'm one of those people who likes to have everything sorted early though as I get really nervous, especially as we had a bit of a panic about ceremony times last week so I want to get things locked in now!

You're doing really well! You're getting married this year you must be so excited. I'd love to bring ours forward to this October instead but financially this just isn't viable x
