Paypal money reversal by buyer

    Not if the buyer is claiming their cards have been used fraudulently.

    The OP has still not said for what reason the reversal was completed.

    How can i find out the reason for this?

    If I was selling a high value item, I'd make damn sure I was protected!
    It's far easier on ebay than in the real world, you have access to buyers feedback, you can get hold of their details by request.
    It's also fairly easy to spot a scammer on ebay.
    I get quite a few 0 or low feedback buyers, but have set things so they have to have a card on file, which usually means paypal confirmed too.
    In over 200 sales , some £150+, I have never had a problem, if a buyer for a high value item has an unconfirmed address, I refund and ask them to confirm with pp or pay by another means. I have a limit, above which I will not risk sending to unconfirmed. Below that limit is completely a measured risk on my part.

    If you only take cheques and postal orders your chargeback worries are over.

    No fees either.
    Again Dave, not totally accurate,
    cheques can come back unpaid after months, ok, you have their bank details and address but that is still no guarantee. You then have the added hassle of chasing things up.
    payment by bank transfer is the only safe method - for the seller.
    UK buyers will take a lot of convincing as they see it as giving up their bank details, forgetting the fact that cheques have that info anyway.

    The first message from paypal about the problem should tell you.

    This is the message i recieved;

    Dear Luke Bavington,
    One of the benefits of using PayPal is that we make every effort to alert you to potentially problematic transactions. Our goal is to help you make sound business decisions.
    A review of recent transactions indicates that you may have received an unauthorised payment. This means that the PayPal account holder may not have authorised the payment you received.
    We would like to learn more about this transaction. Please log in to your PayPal account and provide some information.
    We strongly advise that you do not send the item until our investigation is complete. If you have already sent the item, please log in and let us know where you sent it.
    We have placed a temporary hold on the funds until the investigation is complete."

    Unfortunately i had already sent the item.

    This means that the buyer has said that the payment from their account was fraudulent.

    Firstly, can i just clarify that the recorded delivery number does actually show the phone being delivered? That makes a difference to any suggestions that I can offer. If it doesn't show as delivered then there is nothing that can be done as th eitem was sent using the wrong postal method so you are not covered by the RM.

    However if the recorded does show delivery then take this further. You have a delivery address, you can show the phone was delivered and you have details from paypal suggetsing this is a fraudulent use of card. Therefore contact the person at the address to which the phone was delivered and send them a carefully worded letter, make it sound official and keep copies. Explain that there address has been sued to perpetuate a fraud and that you are going to take legal action and thought they might want to know before court papers arrive at their house.

    Assuming the buyer is a scammer and the item wasn't just lost in the post he might be dim enough to think that he has got away with this, so getting a letter to his address might mean he suddenly 'finds' the phone. It's worth a try and if that doesn't work go to small claims.

    Hmm, just looking at buyers history. He has just paid over £300 for another item..I do hope that seller reads the feedback before sending the goods.

    Definitely a scammer, maybe our secret high metal power seller on here would care to report the buyer as that might at least save the other sellers from loss.

    Otherwise, if anyone has an unlinked safe account, maybe some sellers need to have their attention drawn to the feedback.

    When i type in the recorded delivery reference number online it is currently saying to come back later. Is there any other way that i can find out whether the item has been signed for/delivered?

    Ring or e-mail Royal mail, I've done that before and they are usually fairly helpful. Sometimes it takes days for things to show up on the website .
    Soolin, what exactly do you mean by an "unlinked safe account"? I have a buying id but it's linked to our paypal account and address, does that make it unsuitable for what you suggest?
