Tesco cant even match their own prices....

I decided to spend some christmss vouchers on a coffee machine.
found the one I wanted, checked on line, tesco had the one I wanted for £44.50.
Went to the store to see if it was in stock last night and my luck was in, in stock. I picked up the coffee machine and asked for a price check to make sure it was the right one ans the price comes up at £109. How the bejesus can they justify that?! I left it and came home and e-mailed them asking if this was true. I can stand in the store holding the product I want but I would have to order it to have it at £44.50 (more man power & transport costs) and then wouldnt get it for 48 hours.
I got a call today to follow up on my complaint and the Price has now gone up on line. Stupid me thought to wait for tescos response.
so, how can they justify selling the same item under the tesco brand at such different costs? It wasnt an error so they cant pull the 'invitation to buy' rubbish.
so grumpy its not even funny.

A number of places sell things at different prices online and in store.
You can even find the same thing at different prices in different Tesco stores.
I don't understand your sentence about 'invitation to buy'.0 -
Many companies have differential pricing by channel
Online is more competitive so prices have to be lower. More impulse buying in stores, less ability to check competitors prices, if your in the store you're probably already a "loyal customer" and so ripe for being ripped off.
On this occasion it just sounds like a timing issue but look at like Currys/PC World etc and its standard practice for them and many other retailers0 -
Invitation to buy is the standard phrase used when they miss price something and dont want to honor that price.
its p!ss poor timing but also crazy practice. I would spend more in store than on line so it doesn't make much sense.[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

'Invitation to buy' is the term used when any price is indicated as a purchase price.
It is not specifically to do with mis-pricing.
It must be annoying for you, having seen one price online and a higher one instore.
Wouldn't the best tactic have been to buy the online one?
Surely you were gambling on the store price being reduced after you complaint, and lost.0 -
Order online and it will be delivered to store free of charge the very next day!0

The phrase is "invitation to treat" not "invitation to buy"

I wasnt betting on anything, I wanted an answer to my question before I purchased it.
The term is used when they want to get out of a pricing error, there is no error but I cant uderstand why they wont price match against themselves?[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

but I cant uderstand why they wont price match against themselves?
When retailers have a price match guarantee, it is normally only valid for matching prices when the goods are being purchased from another retailer using the same selling platform. (ie, when buying from a high st shop they will only generally only match prices from other high street shops and not those of online sellers).0 -

The term is invitation to treat, and it is a well established legal concept, far more than something used to get out of a pricing error.0
