. Have we all read Nella Last's War? Spirit - the audiobook of this (& Nella Last's Peace & Nella Last in the 1950's) are all read by Carol Boyd & are fabulous. I have listened to them over & over again.
yes i have the paperback of this and also love watching Housewife 49 each time its on tv. Must track down the audiobook version.
One of the books I picked up yesterday is about the leper colony off the island of Crete - Spinalonga. Fascinating stuff.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Well, I've unexpectedly liberated nearly £20 in dribs and drabs by closing various savings accounts and reward credit cards, that I no longer use....96p here and £1 there mounts up if you leave them for years!
Really, it's been the ideal job for a weekend when I honestly just haven't been in the mood to talk to anyone. Couldn't raise my game to try to be entertaining at all. But I have spoken to various very pleasant and very helpful customer service depts, and that's been enough for this weekend.
I hope to shake this flat mood sooner rather than later, though. I want to be emotionally fit enough to get stuck into this year.
Da B1rd is definitely addictive! Young-Boy-Cat absolutely loves it. From his point of view, it just suddenly appears, so he's actually sleeping with one eye open (not kidding), and is too excited to eat...he is weeing in his litter tray though, so as stress relief, it's definitely working (together with other stress relief measures). When we play with it, he sometimes catches it but happily lets it go (the chase clearly being more exciting than the catch), but other times, his ears flatten and he tries to run off with it, clearly intending to eat it...great fun, but will have to be rationed.
I have a big decision to make now...can I fit a relaxing pamper bath in before my slow roast lamb is ready....it's touch and go if there is enough time now...
Oooo decisions, decisions...
Glad you all sound as though you've had a productive and relaxing weekend.

I love fresh beds, if I had a servant that would be a daily request.
Yes, I'm with you on that one...if I win the lottery, I will have that, too, along with having a hairdresser massage wash and dry my hair daily...and having a handyman on tap (in the cupboard?) to do all those tiny annoying jobs I notice now and again...0 -
LB,
Having a bit of a flat mood would be perfectly understandable at the moment to say the least....and I am sure you will be ready for this year and all it brings in good time...but allow yourself that time.
Stick some fairylights on...always good for a mood lift.
I have abandoned seed planting as it is now dark so will wait until tomorrow or Tuesday in daylight now, but do have the base of the pie on the go, and chips cut.
I haven't spoken to a sole today, which probably due to my job as I spend each working day juggling talking to 20 plus people talking and usually at the same time,.......i have thoroughly loved it. Do any other singlies love this? My mum thinks i'm really odd (but she can talk for england).......the utter peace today has been bliss.
I sometimes wonder if I get to like this too much, and it makes me a bit of a hermit...especially if I have had a hectic week at work.
Re...lottery win and 'staff'....i would be up for a massage weekly, the hair doing each day I could give a miss....it takes months to get me to a hairdresser....but an 'on-tap' handy man would be a definite.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I love fresh sheets too and have them for tonight and, even better, the ones that were taken off the bed this morning have dried outside on the line so can away in the cupboard.
If I win the lottery I'd like a housekeeper so I wouldn't have to clean anymore or cook unless I felt like it. Well, I can dream ...

I read it when it first came out and loved it. I then went to Crete two years ago on holiday and stayed in Ellounda and caught the ferry across to Spinaglong. It was lovely having read the book because you could imagine it all as it was. I still can't believe it was a lepar colony unitil the 1950's. Highly recommended!0 -

Yep, that's me to a tee, too. It's the main reason I rarely socialise after work, too. I need to get home to my own space for a bit of quiet. Being a hermit now and again is no bad thing, imho, especially after a hectic work week.
Often, even though I know I will enjoy others' company, I have to force myself out. I'm usually glad I have though.0 -

I enjoyed the book - sad, but uplifting, too.0 -

Oh, yes! I always sleep better in a lovely fresh, clean bed. I'm going to hire a housekeeper, too, if you don't mind me stealing your idea.
I'm spending my lottery win quite quickly...0 -
Hello everyone. Hope you are all well, and the weather is improving in your area. Horrible to see all the devastastion, and I realised how fortunate I am to live at the top of a hill. Even though I huff and puff when walking back!
Anyhow, I think....I have found the answer to one of my prayers....
I hate vacuuming the stairs. Hate it. I hate either dragging the vacuum up, or down. Just gets me goat. Each to their own.
So, the Kleeneze catalogue popped in the door and I saw.....an extension tube for thr vacuum cleaner...yay!
Means I can hook this thing into said vacuum cleaner and don't have to lug the thing up the stairs..
I have to have it! Only a tenner, and if it works, it will make me very happy.
Silly that little things can do that!
Enjoy your evening folks.0
