:hello: Morning all
There is actually some sunshine outside.... at least that's what I think the strange rarely seen object in the sky is lol
I need to get my chores done today as yesterday turned into a very lazy day
Have a wonderful Sunday whatever you are doing x0 -
Morning!
It's gorgeously sunny here, too. Beautiful blue skies!! :j
I'm still working my way through a huge pile of documents - most can be destroyed (yay!). I love a bit of destruction! If I could just get this finished, then I'll get dressed and get out for a walk and some fresh air.
I'm also watching youngest-boy-cat looking for Da B1rd...I've "hidden" it on top of the sideboard, and he's already managed to knock a plant and pot onto the floor...he knows it's there...just can't quite get to it...every time I look at him, he mews at me with excitement. Wish i'd got this toy for him months ago. His acrobatics when we play are fabulous! I'm coming back as a cat in a good home...:rotfl:
A quick question if anyone can help - who would have my house deeds - would that be the building society who last held my mortgage, do you think? I've had confirmation from the Land Registry that the house is mine, but no deeds...so I guess I need to track them down.
Hope you all have a lovely sunny Sunday

Spirit - can you paint the breezeblock wall and grow stuff up it rather than spending money on expensive coverings? Some vine eyes and wire would allow you to grow roses, clematis, honeysuckle etc up the wall and none of them would damage it. I did this in my first garden to hide the ugly workshop at the back of it.
My neighbours have done this - their side of the wall is a very bright blue which is lovely even when there isn't much growing up it. In late spring it is covered in sweet peas & other climbers & looks amazing.groatie_queen wrote: »By coincidence, I recently read a brilliant book, "Between Silk and Cyanide" written by Leo Marks, who was the son one of the owners of that very bookshop. During WW2, Leo was a senior cryptographer with the Special Operations Executive (SOE), and wrote code poems for agents being parachuted into Europe. The most famous, "The Life that I Have" was given to Violette Szabo, but had been written on the death of his girlfriend Ruth.
The book "84 Charing Cross Road", is charming and well worth a read too.
I read 84 many years ago & loved it, but have never seen the film. I'll look out for the other book too GQ, thanks. Have we all read Nella Last's War? Spirit - the audiobook of this (& Nella Last's Peace & Nella Last in the 1950's) are all read by Carol Boyd & are fabulous. I have listened to them over & over again.LavenderBees wrote: »Morning!

Very therapeutic destroying paperwork, isn't it! Must start working through my pile/mountain...
Regarding deeds - I thought they were all electronic these days. All I got was a scrappy bit of paper from Land Registry saying I had sole ownership (or words to that effect). But my house was built in the 60's as a council house before being bought from the council by the only family to live in it. I remember seeing a photocopy of some deeds when I bought it, but was told not to worry about them when I paid off the mortgage. My mortgage provider didn't have them & Land Registry weren't interested in my questions.
May be worth posting a question on the Mortgage Board?
We have sunshine here today - no rain at all (yet). If I didn't feel so rubbish with the usual end of term lurgy I'd be off on a walk. As it is I'll be on the sofa with some paracetamol & hot tea, catching up on rubbish TV....& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Morning Folks, lovely sunny day here too, but a bit breezy - just a pity I've already caught up with the washing.LavenderBees wrote: »

If I remember correctly the bank sent me a form to complete when I paid off the mortgage, returned the deeds via my solicitor who then did the necessary with the land registry. I have a copy of my title deeds, originals are with my solicitor.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £119.54
Aug - Grocery spends = £42.190 -
Sorry, you're feeling grot, JKS, hope you feel better soon!
I've emailed my ex- building society to see what they say as one of the letters I've come across from them says they will release my deeds once the payment clears...and that was 3 months ago now. I've never been in this lovely position to own my own house, so I haven't honestly got a clue.
This documents work is taking ages, as I'm now working through things like expired EHIC cards to renew, old savings accounts to close them etc etc. I'm also putting all important docs together in binders and labelling them etc.
By the end of the day, things should be much simplified, but it's SOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!
And you know what....by next month, it'll already be out of date....
Big sigh!

ETA - found a £5 premium bond...had it since 1985....haven't won a penny....:(0 -
My understanding is that deeds as such are a bit of a "historical" thing now and not necessary.
All houses bought and sold in recent times (cant remember what year that started?) are recorded at the Land Registry.
I'm trying to remember what I had on my last house (after remortgaging or whenever) and think it was just some electronic record type copy thing? Couldn't swear to it or to the fact that I think that's what I've got on this house too mind...
Reason being...I was given all the "historical" stuff by my solicitor when I remortgaged on my last house at one point and, when I bought this house, I got given all the "historical" paperwork on the house again (don't know whether that was because I was buying it without a mortgage mind...).
Congrats LB on getting through the paperwork.:T0 -

whinge....whine....BUT THE SUN's SHINING... whinge....whine...:p
I only started this bloomin job because it was raining yesterday...now I have a living room floor covered in paperwork, so HAVE to finish it before I can allow myself free time

:rotfl:I'll join you in that. Its actually quite decent weather here too....errrm...but I really must get on with my welsh homework in a minute..whoops...
I know I could do it during the week when I cant do much else (ie because of workmen in), but I find I cant focus when they are in the house (as I'm on constant alert in case they make mistakes and/or do things differently to what I require because they haven't thought to ask me ...).
Ducking and diving to and from distraction stuff (ie online:o) and trying to memorise words at moment (my excuse is that I have to keep the computer switched on for every time I want to look up how to pronounce a word I'm not sure of...).
Sunny days will come again and we will feel free to get out in them...0 -
Pottering.......i am excellent at pottering.
These are the singlie days I absolutely adore.
To be honest it's been more like wandering around the house pondering things I should do....then having a sit down to think about it.....lol.
I have done the lounge windows, and dusted, hoovered, and changed the bed linen so have washing on the go too. I love fresh beds, if I had a servant that would be a daily request.
Actually my mum was telling me her grandparents had live-in and daily staff.....i have SOoooo been born in the wrong era...!!!...lol.
Fresh bed is white linen...that Asbo is now asleep on (she loves fresh linen too)...so even before I have got in there will be some black, ginger, cream and white hairs on it no doubt.
I'm still in my PJ's, but have taken out some beef stew and pastry from freezer to make a pie and will muster up some energy to make some HM chips I think...if i'm going down the pie route I may as well have the chips too.
Good job on the paperwork LB....i have to attack mine over the next couple of days.
RE:....da bird........apparently that toy is very addictive, and people have had to seriously hide the toy so as not to create problems...not sure how true it is, but can remember reading something about it. They are meant to love it though....so that can only be good for the little ones stress level......so I guess he should party on for now....lol.
Right....i'm going to potter some more, bored of looking round house now, so think I will plant up some cress seeds.........thanks to Byatt.
Hope all having a good day.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

hi Greenbee,
the wall is South facing so I have my fig tree there. I nipped to Homebase this morning and got a roll of reed screen and have put it up. It really was a very ugly wall and the fig doesn't entirely cover it.
I have staple-banger-in fingers now - ouch!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0
