  • Sorry to hear life is causing problems for you BW but glad to hear that the powers-that-be actually took notice. Don't think you are moaning - you are simply sharing your problems. We all have them and it is a wonderful thing to have this thread to offload to. Hope you enjoy your restful weekend, but I do wonder what great plans you have for next weekend after payday?!

I need to cut my grass (and mow up the masses of leaves) but the grass is just too wet. There won't be many more cuts but it needs at least one more before I pack the mower away. It is a bit long though - especially out the front. I don't mind the mowing (so much) when it is out of sight, but don't enjoy providing entertainment for the neighbours. I seem to be blessed (or cursed) with those who mow lovely stripes up their lawns, me I use the mower a bit like I'm hoovering!

Money - Thanks for the laugh with the frail/not so frail old lady. I can see you walking along brandishing a crucifix! Hope things improve - and garlic is so useful for cooking.

LB It was a bit frightening to read that you have done your C shopping already, although I can see it would be more pleasant doing it now before the panic sets in. I have cut the number of people I give to right back. If I never see my brothers or their (grown) families, why should I struggle to afford to buy them gifts? So, now I have just my parents to get for and a couple of "token" gifts for friends and I try and buy a few treats for me to enjoy over the holidays (music/books and the like).

Still, the washer has just finished so I had best go and hang it out.

  • Hi, All

TFI Friday, eh? Is the lack of posts down to having a rip roaring (social) life?. I hope so... :D

I was sorry to read about Pink's passing, very sad. :(

Talking of very sad, Young-Boy-Cat is physically better (touch wood), and lots of the time he is actively seeking to play and have cuddles, but, at quiet times, he is mooching around the house and very clearly looking for Old-boy-Cat. The last few nights he has disturbed me by looking under the duvet (while I was asleep) as OBC spent many years tucked in beside me, then he went to look under the spare bed where OBC had spent the last few weeks, and then last night, he opened the wardrobe door, and got inside to check if OBC was there (OBC often went in there if he was feeling poorly).

Poor YBC...his tail droops further and further when these searches don't turn up OBC :(.

And poor Little Miss Millie Mops - if she tries to play with him when he is searching, she gets told in no uncertain terms that she is not wanted :(. (Then 5 minutes later they are romping around together again, thank goodness :p)

I can't do anything but try to comfort and distract YBC and hope that as the scent of OBC fades, his memories do, too. Poor little cat. But at least he isn't as distressed as last week, so is physically doing ok.

So, apart from that, I am just plodding on - busy at work ironically given I expect to be finished next year :(, and will get busier in the coming weeks, and it looks like it's all going to be interesting challenging work, so I'm glad as I desperately need to build my confidence again.

On the downside, I'm starting to hear references to the C word....have declined the office party, and seen the first TV ads :(. It all seriously depresses me again. I think it was around this time last year that I started the last lovely thread, and got such fabulous suggestions on how to fill my time so wonderfully, that last Xmas really was a doddle...well, most of it.

I need to start to think about planning my time off work that week to keep busy but also mainly to have a nice rest.

I also need to find a way to ignore the run up to C....but it's a strange thing that others (I suppose these are mostly those who have no idea how I feel), just will not let me be...

But that's a little way off yet, and today is FRIDAY, and the sun is out, and I am planning another pottering weekend after shopping tomorrow :T. I might...just might....light the first fire of the Autumn tomorrow night...Yep, I know how to live :rotfl:.

Hope you are all doing ok. Enjoy your weekends :)

    LB xx

Poor YBC - I hope it all gets better for him soon (& you obviously). He sound like a sensitive soul, bless him. When one of my old cats had to be pts, the other cat positively reveled in his absence - making sure she sat where he always used to sit with such an air of triumph. They're such funny creatures. The cat that isn't mine has decided to be stuck to me like glue this morning, so is crashed out on the chair behind me & I'm perched right on the end, leaning on the table :rotfl:

Also dreading C too, & starting to get a bit fed up with people telling me all about their wonderful plans - I'm all baa humbug about C now & it isn't even Hallowe'en :D Yes LB, others do bang on about it a lot, don't they? I've already said I'm not going to the works do, so that's a weight off my mind.

Good morning everyone :) Sorry for being MIA. RL has been kicking my butt a bit.

Work has been absolutely mental. In fact it's been so bad I had a bit of a meltdown at a big boss last week..and they have actually taken notice and have taken some work off me. This is a first as I have asked them to do so before but usually it falls on deaf ears.

I have been fending off the lurgy too :( Had a sore throat and sniffles for much of last week (I blame having to attend a 2 day work conference) and the most annoying cough. I seem to have shaken the sore throat and now just have the cough. Although I suppose if it doesn't develop into anything more, I've been quite lucky.

I've also got a bit of a problem with the bathroom. I think it's condensation causing a damp ceiling/start of mould showing. There is no heating in the room but there is a window and so ventilation shouldn't be a problem - so currently investigating that. Howevever, I also now have a hole in the ceiling where a helpful family member touched it  More to sort/deal with/pay for.

Goodness - I sound like a right moaning myrtle don't I?! It does help to write this down though - so thanks for letting me share :)

I'm having a quiet weekend. Partly needed for mental sanity and partly enforced as payday not til Friday

On a more postive note though - the weather has massively improved last few days and it's given me a chance to get the garden tidied. I'm pleased to have got the lawn cut as suspect that will be last time this year.

    Off to catch up

    Hugs BW :)

BW - sometimes RL is just such a PITA. Don't worry about mithering, that's what we're all here for after all. Don't know what to say about the bathroom problem other than I have a window in mine that is usually always open yet I still have problems with condensation & mould. It's the same in my bedroom, so either I spend ages wiping down walls & windows, or run a dehumidifier. But as I can't sleep with it on, each morning the walls are dripping even with the window open. Builder friends just puts it down to the poor build quality of my house (1960's ex-council house) :(.

Hope you're felling a little better too.

I'm not posting much as RL just seems to be getting harder & harder, & I'm caught in the really struggling to cope but have no option other than to cope quandary that all us singlies with no family support find ourselves in. I am still following the thread, even if I don't say much.

Hope all are doing better than I am :rotfl:
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • Morning All

Big hugs to you all...we all need them, it sounds! :(

Re condensation, you need warmth and ventilation to resolve condensation problems. I've been wondering why I don't have condensation in my bathroom as I also don't have heating in there, and the only real conclusion I can come to is that my bathroom window is west facing, and so it gets loads of sunshine all year round, so is often the warmest room (sometimes it isn't, of course). So, I think it's pure luck. If I had a condensation problem, I'm pretty sure I'd get a heated towel rail installed. Useful, as well as problem solving.

I'm also going to not renew my NT membership. Apart from the fact that there are very few NT properties in my near neck of the woods, and the ones that are here, I've done to death, I also very much object to the fact that a single membership is proportionately more than the one half of a couples membership.

    STAMPS FOOT ANGRILY.

I won't be perpetuating this nonsense any more. Singlies Unite!

    :rotfl:

Can't believe it's almost lunchtime and I have done nothing so far...not even had breakfast...I just can't get moving at all. I have been to see the chooks, who shouted themselves hoarse at the lack of treats. I got prodded, and chewed at :rotfl:. Spoilt chooks that they are.

Well, I have onions and potato doing their stuff in prep for a frittata brunch, and then I have a few must do things to do this afternoon to make life possible to achieve this week, and then it's bedtime and back to work again...The only reason to roll onto C...is for the break I get enforced on me. Lots of PJ days to look forward to :T.

RPP - my C shopping would be none existent if there weren't a few friends to buy a wee pressie for. I've even chopped some of these down this year as I have felt let down by some, so they are relegated to card only. And maybe not even that the way I feel at the mo ....:rotfl:....

    I'm a hard woman :rotfl:

Keep your chins up, folks. If there is any advice that can be offered (wanted or indeed, not wanted ;)) , just shout, and we'll all pitch in. Don't feel alone...

    LB xx
  • Poor YBC - I hope it all gets better for him soon (& you obviously). He sound like a sensitive soul, bless him.

He is a sensitive little sausage...I'm glad he doesn't have to go to Cat Skool as he'd be bullied for being a bit of a wuss puss :rotfl:

    But I love him...:o

I had been told about a programme by Guy Martin about a Spitfire so I found it on 4oD and watched it (all 3 hrs of it).

I watched that too as Guy Martin is one of the motorcycle racers I am interested in generally ...plus I love listening to his Lincs accent :p In case you are interested his new series of Speed is on next week too
I do wonder what great plans you have for next weekend after payday?!

:rotfl: ha ha nothing majorly exciting planned... I'm going to visit my folks and get my hair done

Thanks for the idea LB - will add that to the list of things to investigate and see if it's feasible from a practical and financial viewpoint.

Hugs right back at you too!
  • Problems of being a singlie indeed and todays one was a minor level medical emergency type situation.

As a singlie you cant afford to be "proud and aloof" sometimes. So out I went looking for a kind stranger to help me with it (rural type area dictated no-one but no-one is officially "on duty" to help out here today with these things:eek::mad:). Obviously cant ask Neighbour from Hell and don't want to trouble friends to drive in in a car to do so. So deliberately went out looking for "kind stranger" and I found one:). Boy...am I ever appreciative...MUCH more comfortable now and thoroughly grateful at the fact that, out of the various people available, I headed straight towards the one who could/would help:T. So, that's a lot of my day gone for a burden as to what I had actually planned...but feeling very grateful for help from a stranger.

I don't give a tuppeny damn about political correctness/worries for own "little backside" personally...so it literally wouldn't/doesn't faze me one iota if a stranger asks me for help if I think its of a reasonable level...but I do know many people do..

Today, it went right and I found somebody like me to help me when I needed it:):T. Am grateful for that.

MITSM - not sure what you are talking about but glad to hear that it seems to be sorted with the help of a kind third party

My woes are continuing :( Just went to turn on the fan oven in my new cooker (which is 2 weeks old) and it won't work. No light, power or lights on the control panel. Oddly though the top oven and hob still works.
Soooo that is another thing to sort. Have to say I'm feeling pretty fed up about it

Money I hope the medical situation is now sorted - I also ask strangers for help sometimes.

BW - thanks for the tip about Guy Martin's new programme, I shall watch it.

Saw my parents today - dad is looking even frailer than before and I had a goodly telling off. I was also asked to decide what I want for my birthday - now I could ask for my car to be sorted or I could ask for a window cleaner or the house cleaner that dad has already offered to pay for. I confess that I struggle with the housework because I just don't see the dust and because I don't see it - I think everything is ok when it isn't. The state of the house is why my parents have refused to buy a new grate or even some French doors.

I asked Dad about growing up in the war and he told me all sorts of things about life as a boy in Pembrokeshire (he moved here when he was 7), he also told me about walking to school across the fields (the distance is a good 5 miles).

I came home with some magazines (some need to be returned to be passed to my aunt) a bag of tomatoes (the last of the greenhouse ones), a cheque for £65 so that I can get the house alarm serviced and £31 for me (mum had promised to pay for my hair cut last month and she paid for a bag of sugar that I got cheap). She firmly reminded me that I need to get some long life milk in case I cannot get out of the house for any reason.

The pair of them told me to go and stand in the doctors and kick up a real fuss about my repeat prescription because I am now being refused because I haven't seen my GP to chat about how I am getting on with the meds (this is a total waste of time but I do think they are trying to save money and not have to prescribe preservative free drops). I know that my eye pressure in my left eye has increased because I haven't had the eye drops to take (instead of taking two a day - I have eked it out to one and after today I am totally out). What is doubly annoying is that if I don't take the drops I will go blind:mad: If I can't get a prescription then I will have to contact my consultant at the eye hospital and ask him to write one (I would then have to take 2 buses to get there to collect it). I feel as though I have been poked in the eye with a pointy stick:(

Nipped round to see an elderly neighbour - it took me ages to get her to open the door (she is very deaf), in the summer we were talking about tomatoes and how she liked them freshly picked. I took her 4 small ones (the ones I have had from mum are only small).

Best crack on I guess - I still have housework to do and it is early doors tomorrow as I have to be at a meeting in the city centre at 9.30am (I will be giving them hell because I am being asked to do something that I don't want to do and they are not getting the message that it isn't going to happen).

Bookworm could you have accidently pressed the timer switch. I had to ask mr builder if he would look at mine when he was doing other jobs for me recently (he brought me the free 13 months old cooker as someone else was throwing it out and mine died on New Year's Eve) and he just pressed the 4 buttons until it decided to work again.

Condensation problems - I was advised a long time ago to buy the 'kitchen and bathroom paint' (now usually two ranges) and that really helped cut down on the amount of moisture trickling down the walls. Bought new windows and the heated towel rail when I could afford them but the paint made it manageable up to that point.
