Bookworm could you have accidently pressed the timer switch. I had to ask mr builder if he would look at mine when he was doing other jobs for me recently (he brought me the free 13 months old cooker as someone else was throwing it out and mine died on New Year's Eve) and he just pressed the 4 buttons until it decided to work again.

Condensation problems - I was advised a long time ago to buy the 'kitchen and bathroom paint' (now usually two ranges) and that really helped cut down on the amount of moisture trickling down the walls. Bought new windows and the heated towel rail when I could afford them but the paint made it manageable up to that point.

The timer isn't set and there isn't a seperate switch - I have checked all the options

Re: bathroom. It was repainted last year and I did use bathroom paint.

    Thanks for the comments/suggestions :)
  • Hello folks

Someone a page or two ago asked where all the male posters on this thread were. Well I'm one. Are there any others or is it just me representing bloke singlies?

Been reading but not posted for a while. Major bit of renovation to Grousescot Towers recently - old kitchen completely gutted and replaced. Not a straightforward process, I doubt these things ever are, and a bit frustrating but finally it's finished and paid for. All the things that I haven't been very happy with since I moved in have been sorted and I'm very pleased with it indeed. Just minor decoration required which Dad and I can do. My Dad has been a massive help during the process and I really wouldn't have been able to manage it all by myself as I'm not very practical in that way. Is there an age by which one should really not be relying on the parents for practical assistance with stuff? I'm mid 30s so conscious I must be reaching this point soon.

Anyone else got a bit of the Sunday night feeling? I seem to have had a bit of that during the week too! Practically need a crowbar to get myself out of bed in the mornings. Seem to have a general feeling of demotivation and I've suddenly found a lot of things need doing that I really should have dealt with a while back. Still at least that can count as the metaphorical kick up the backside to get organised.

Re the C-word, I'm afraid I spotted the first themed cards back in August which seems beyond ridiculous. I'm not doing the works do this year, in fact I wasn't going to do last year's but I changed posts shortly beforehand so thought I should go along to be sociable in the new office. I no longer feel any obligation of this sort. I don't have the option of ignoring everything C-word related but for sure I'll keep it to a minimum.

Horace - I'm on umpteen kinds of eye drops renewed each month and what I do for repeat prescriptions is just to ring the chemist and they deal with the GP surgery directly as me ringing surgery always led to an answering machine and not an actual person. It seems very unreasonable for you to have to pick up and transport the prescription yourself.

It's inspirational reading everyone's postings and how you just get along with whatever gets chucked at you. Will try to chip in a bit more myself.

    Hi everyone

Sorry I've not been posting lately!

LB Sorry to read about Old Boy Cat.

I do like the dreaded C-period - just because of the increased opportunities to get out and about. There is the works do (ours is normally a cheapie BYOB costing between £4 to £6) and the C-lunch (which is still unorganised at this moment).

I do appreciate that it would not be everyone's cup of tea to socialise with colleagues but my view is that it is only a few hours of my time and will be better than watching television.
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Good morning everyone :) Sorry for being MIA. RL has been kicking my butt a bit.

Work has been absolutely mental. In fact it's been so bad I had a bit of a meltdown at a big boss last week..and they have actually taken notice and have taken some work off me. This is a first as I have asked them to do so before but usually it falls on deaf ears.

Glad they have got it sorted, sorry you had to have a mini melt to get things done

I have been fending off the lurgy too :( Had a sore throat and sniffles for much of last week (I blame having to attend a 2 day work conference) and the most annoying cough. I seem to have shaken the sore throat and now just have the cough. Although I suppose if it doesn't develop into anything more, I've been quite lucky.

Hope your feeling better soon, it sounds daft but the cough could be a result of dry air, and if the room was too warm

I've also got a bit of a problem with the bathroom. I think it's condensation causing a damp ceiling/start of mould showing. There is no heating in the room but there is a window and so ventilation shouldn't be a problem - so currently investigating that. Howevever, I also now have a hole in the ceiling where a helpful family member touched it  More to sort/deal with/pay for.

Ah, can't help re hole in ceiling, but know where your coming from ceiling, ours was due to lack of ventalition, we do have a raidiator in there, only really on winter.

What we did was - use a mix of hot water, washing powder to wash the ceiling down, this got rid of the mould, then got some tea tree oil (£1 from £1shop), and put a few drops on the cotton wool and wipe the ceiling over, did that for 3 days running, - we then repainted with mould proof paint, (over the summer) touch wood the ceiling has become clear, we open the window when having showers, then leave the door ajar to let air circulate.

Goodness - I sound like a right moaning myrtle don't I?! It does help to write this down though - so thanks for letting me share :)

Don't be daft, if you can't moan among your virtual friends, it be a poor look out

I'm having a quiet weekend. Partly needed for mental sanity and partly enforced as payday not til Friday

On a more postive note though - the weather has massively improved last few days and it's given me a chance to get the garden tidied. I'm pleased to have got the lawn cut as suspect that will be last time this year.

    Off to catch up

    Hugs BW :)

Just a thought we got a humidifer from £1 shops, just take the foil off it lasts about 4-6 weeks, have them in the bedroom, may be worth it for winter time xx

Bookworm - re your bathroom, it might be worth getting an extractor fan fitted, as that will help to take the damp air out. You can have it switched so it isn't on when you're in there, but you can switch it on when you have finished and it will run for 3/5/10 minutes and then go off.

If this is a humidifier, then that will increase moisture not decrease it. I think you probably meant de-humidifier?

I tried one or two of these in my front porch years ago, and it didn't help the streaming (old single glazed) windows at all, although the little bauble thingies did certainly seem to swell up with the moisture taken in. Spending a few thousand on double glazing did the trick though ;)

  • Officially feeling sick then. I've had official confirmation that my Neighbour From Hell has put in an application to try and steal part of my land.

Hence...feeling sick...I knew the Little Sod would do that...but to find you've got a thief as a neighbour isn't the worlds most cheering prospect and obviously still more so when you are their intended victim. We all like to think our neighbours are honest upright citizens and, if we're lucky, then friendly and helpful. C'est la vie though...

Obviously fighting back and realistically assessing my chances as pretty noticeably better than hers...but obviously it aint over till the fat lady sings as we know and I don't know how long the fightback will take. One plus is that I am fighting with a clear conscience and self-respect intact, but she won't be if she has any sort of conscience.

Fingers crossed and good vibes beaming and practical advice from anyone that has been in same situation obviously welcome.

Right now...advice how to not give in to temptation to go and throttle her would be apt obviously:cool:...as I feel pretty angry that she is trying this and would just love to clobber her right round her little ears...but know I mustn't and have to stay restrained/polite (ie not say one word to her at all)/etc and I'm sure she'd love for me to lose my temper with her - so I'd better not...though it sure would be well-justified in the circumstances. So all advice anyone can give on how not to call her all the names she richly deserves right now for trying this welcome please....

Guess I start by writing her an absolutely filthy letter - and then ceremoniously setting fire to it, rather than sending it, then?

Quite surprised at the number of my friends that are describing her as a witch to me and one friend said she literally screamed when she saw her photo and is still wondering why.

 Where did she get a photo of her from? Surely you are not showing photo's of her around??

I would just say remember "Nora Batty":naughty::silenced:
"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.

    Hello gang

Feeling a bit meh myself today (you are not alone BW). Monday was exceptionally busy as I had to be in the city centre for a meeting at 9.30am (I now know what is expected of my Friends group with regards to certain activities that take place in my local park), this was followed by another meeting somewhat angrier because the Friends feel as though they are being forced to accept an activity that just isn't suitable for the winter as we do not have any hard standing for it to take place on. The sports dept can moan all they like and keep pushing the fact that 25 people turn up for this activity, I reminded them of their obligations and what was agreed when we first became an active park. I also dropped the instructor well and truly in it because she had been advised that the ground conditions were dangerous (her activity involves a lot of jumping about to music) and she said she would cancel but when 9 people turned up she decided to go ahead anyway and then had the nerve to complain about the mud and the ground being slippery  Anyway it is sorted - we will not be bullied!

I came home and headed straight for my GP to see if they had done a prescription for me (I still can't get a ruddy appointment), thankfully they had done a prescription. I haven't been taking my eye drops properly because I was trying to spread them out so that at least I was able to take some on a daily basis. I have had a thumping headache since yesterday. Got the scrip filled, treated myself to a Belgian bun and a cheese & ham bake from Mr G's. Got home at around 3pm - the working party were due to land at mine at around 4pm.

Today I was supposed to be doing a walk leader course but instead I spent part of the day in the eye casualty as I managed to get an emergency appointment (all I need to do is ring and say that I am on my way). As expected my eye pressures have risen but my consumption of the glaucoma drop has not increased. I spent the rest of the time in the house wearing sunglasses with the curtains drawn.

My soup has been portioned and is in the freezer. I have been tinkering with window display stuff and this afternoon I got my electric screwdriver out (it now needs charging) and I drilled a hole through a conker (one that had been stewing in glycerine and water for a week), at first I tried threading string through but it wouldn't go so remembered to light a scented candle and I dipped the end of the string in that before threading it through the conker. I have also make a silver skipping rope out of a handle for an old gift bag, I added a few knots and some yellow electrical tape for the handles.

Not enjoying the weather - it is too windy and as I was getting a draught through the windows in this room (and possibly the air brick) I have closed the curtains.

Hope you have had a good day?
