Horace, I once knew a woman who only had one leg. She was regularly called in for disability benefit reviews "to see if anything had changed". (She was a local Councillor in the area she lived, in the days when their expenses were very modest, so quite a prominent figure locally). Her standard reply was "No, nothing's changed, still waiting to see if it grows back".

Plucked up the courage to ring mum this evening, tried to make arrangements to go down this weekend but I was reminded that the F1 motor racing was on and dad would be glued to the tv (he doesn't like being disturbed when the racing is on). I told mum that I thought I knew the F1 racing calendar but was told that a new race had been added.

I am off shopping tomorrow and will be getting her a bag of sugar for 59p from FF (it is normally 79p in other supermarkets). I need to get things like milk and now that I know that Hovis make bread for FF under a different name, I might get a couple of loaves and freeze them.

Dad is unwell - he had the flu/shingles jab and it knocked him about a bit. He has previously been ok with the flu jab but the doctor insisted that he have the shingles jab. My uncle finds out tomorrow if the chemo has worked - he has had 8 rounds of it (some he has missed because when he has attended hospital some of it is still in his system so he has had to wait for it to clear before having another round). Hopefully this will have gotten rid of his bowel cancer.

Mum reminded me to ring the house alarm man and ask him how much it will be to service the system because it is due (actually looked and found that it was due on 12 August). I told her that since the thieving thug has been released from prison and is back living next door but one (it would be a lovely house but for the horrible council tenants in it - they are beyond vile), I set the alarm even if I am mowing the lawn out front or if I nip to the post box. I don't always set it and am getting back into the habit of doing so. There are times when I don't like living here because of the vile people - it is so bad sometimes that there can be several police cars parked outside (I usually comment to the police that they may as well move in as they are there that often).

I have been looking at Pinterest again and have found something that I will definitely try. It is a light for the garden made using a jam jar, some waterproof adhesive, some glass pebbles with flat bottoms and a solar light and a post.

Take a jam jar with screw lid - get a screw and screw the lid to the top of a post so that it looks like a dish on top of the post. Cover the outside of the jam jar with glass pebbles. Take the post off a garden solar light (sometimes you can pick up these cheaply) and drop the light into the jar so the solar panel bit is on the bottom, screw the jar onto the lid and voila - one snazzy lamp for the garden.

    EEk my pumpkin awaits...night all.

Horace - think the F1 racing is a race from japan, them seem to have been time trialing it this week.
Hope everything goes ok with your Uncle and the chemo has worked, thats what dad had/has the bowel cancer, they think they got all the mass out, but its whether any rogue cells are left and secondary. keep fingers crossed.
Hope dad goes on ok, the shingles jab seems to be the new in thing, the nurse wouldnt let dad have it as it is a live vaccine, whereas he could have the flu jab.

pininterest - that gets very addictive,

    Strewth!

My Carbon Monoxide alarm has gone off...I've got all my windows open (freezing in here now!), nothing has been on - no fire lit, I don't have gas, can't think what might be emitting carbon monoxide but daren't take the risk...

I took my alarm outside, and it went off, so I'm suspecting batteries or just that the alarm is maybe too old now. I daren't test it outside again in case I wake the neighbours!

And I have a headache...so am worried I have one of the symptoms of CM poisoning! Well, of course I do! It's bloomin early hours of the morning, and I should be fast asleep....

If I survive til morning , I'll get a new alarm and see what happens.

It's a tough end to a tough week, and I'm tired. My darling Old-Boy-Cat was pts on Tuesday night, and my world is all the darker and colder as a result. I feel absolutely bereft :(.

And Young-Boy-Cat has had to be rushed to the vet for what appeared to be life threatening symptoms (it's a long story going back to last year). The vet thinks he is suffering stress as a result of missing Old-Boy-Cat...luckily, the treatment seems to be working. And YBC, whilst definitely not back to his normal self, does seem to be improving...please, please... Little Miss Millie Mops luckily seems oblivious to all the upheaval - wish I was a 7mth old kitten!

So, it's been an emotionally tough old week, and I've had to take a couple of days off work as I've reached overload and just couldn't cope with it all :(

And I had promised myself a good rest this weekend, and started with an early night last night... but s0d's law...here I am sitting up, freezing my t!ts off :rotfl:, sipping tea to keep me awake, and probably all for a faulty alarm...that just may not be faulty.

Anyway, I've caught up on all your news, so that's one good thing.

And I'm going to bed again...leaving all the windows open just in case....if you don't hear from me again, well, it's been lovely knowing you all :D

    Night night

    LB xx

Ruddy Hell.....have you had the burner on yet....coal or wood that hasn't burnt properly can give off carbon monoxide too i'm sure...doesn't have to be gas....or a leak in where the smoke goes up the flue.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

It's not funny though to be fair....i don't want to find myself in A n E until this malarki is sorted. I keep catching things at the flipping place off people. Want to be ill.....hang out there for a few hours.

Sorry to hear about YBC LB

Edit last post as see you say you haven't lit anything...must be battery then.

Glad you are taking a couple of days off LB....i think it will do you some good....you sound knackered kiddo.

I have got hols weeks in Nov and Dec.....cant wait...it's bad isn't it when you think like that, I used to love going to work, now I look forward to the off times all the time.

I'm down in Birmingham area at the end of this month visiting folk...the straight off to London the day after I get back from that......Asbo-cat Is NOT going to be amused one bit.

Right...back to the grind..notes to write....checks to do.

Not the batteries...just tried brand new ones with same effect. Will get a new alarm and see what happens. But, no, definitely not had the fire lit. And I had the flue etc checked just a few weeks ago in prep for winter.

I feel like a wet dishcloth this morning, but the house is full of lovely fresh air and will be until this is sorted....just in case...:rotfl:

Hairdressers & Waitr0se treats for tea tonight...that's my planned day.

Hope you all have a good'un

  • LavenderBees - so sorry to hear about OBC and the additional worry with YBC. Hopefully the care he is being given is helping YBC to feel better. For yourself, just be gentle to yourself and take things easy. It hurts when you have to part with them and it will for a while. I still miss some of mine and they have been gone for years now.

Calicocat - sorry also to hear your possible redundancy news. Fingers' crossed it holds off long enough for you to get some emergency funds and supplies together and that, should it happen, you find a nice, well paid job doing part time hours!

I'm up reasonably early this morning as I have a man coming to look at the leaking loo and also to adjust the washer. My good man has turned out to be not as good as first thought, so I can't trust him with my leaky loo in case he does damage while mending it (it is in a cabinet) and my washer is not level.

Mothernerd - love the reply from the Councillor!
