Repair on Technika tv issue

Hi,
To cut my long story short, we returned a TV on the 8th October due to an on/off faulty switch.
We gave them 2 weeks as they state 3/5 working days and managed to find out the screen was damaged in transit (which we/they can claim for as their policy with the courier (DPD) doesnt cover tv's at 32"
This has still not been repaired as they continually say the part is "on order"
We're now into month 4.. before Christmas we asked at what point they gave up and replaced it and we were offered a reconditioned tv (40") with the remainder of our warranty (till April) as cover (we havent accepted yet)
Anyone have any ideas of things I can do to move this along?
Thanks

I don't understand why you'd want your old TV re-conditioned when they have already offered a (larger) reconditioned model instead?
Technika TVs are supermarket cheapies made with inferior components (which accounts for the lower price).
I really don't see a problem in accepting the replacement. They only have to offer a repair or goods of equivalent specification. They won't be sending you a brand new set.0 -
Technika are badged up overruns and job lots. Hence spares are rarely available for very long, if at all. If you can neogotiate a refund instead, take that and buy a proper budget brand from RS or similar (LG, Samsung etc).
You should not have waited this long, after a month it must have been obvious that the part was unavailable.
if you want the larger set, take the recon-hopefully it's not a Technika. No free lunch, and no free laptop

We're just worried that the 40" E-motion TV offered would only be under warranty for 3 months and as it's pre-owned we would not be aware of any previous faults etc if we had any issues with this.
We would prefer either a replacement TV (which are now cheaper than we paid initially), a refund to enable us to purchase a TV of a similar spec, or our TV back (with the warranty extended due to their slow response)
I didn't know if there was any thing I could quote that would help force the issue in some way0 -
It would be the same if they repaired your original TV, so no loss. We're just worried that the 40" E-motion TV offered would only be under warranty for 3 months and as it's pre-owned we would not be aware of any previous faults etc if we had any issues with this.
This won't happen, unless it's a refurb as already offered. We would prefer either a replacement TV
If you get a refund, it won't be the whole of the original purchase price as your TV is not brand new.a refund to enable us to purchase a TV of a similar spec
They won't extend the warranty.our TV back (with the warranty extended due to their slow response)
You can't "force" the issue.I didn't know if there was any thing I could quote that would help force the issue in some way
Realistically, you can either accept refurbished model or try to negotiate a pro-rata refund of some of the purchase price.
Good advice (for the future).buy a proper budget brand from RS or similar (LG, Samsung etc).0 -
Take the 40" TV and run. Seriously! And start saving for a decent brand if you want any chance of repair. If you buy any of these cheaper or own brands, I always think that as part of the cheap purchase price you have to be willing to throw it away if it breaks, as parts/servicing won't be available.0

The retailer can repair, replace or refund at their discretion, you can't 'force' anything.
But 4 months is far too long to have waited for a repair. Ask for a refund (it'll be partial, not full). No free lunch, and no free laptop

Even some good brands (Panasonic for certain) produce specials for supermarket sale. These are cheaper builds, so not a bargain, and can be spotted as the model number doesn't appear at any other retailer or on the product's website.0

Thanks for the helpful posts (and the non helpful ones too...)
We were unsure on where we stood with regard to trading standards and what terms/laws we could use to ensure a faster conclusion.
Perhaps "force" was the wrong word to use but to be without a TV for 4 months is the irritating fact and if we could claim something back from them for the inconvenience it would be a bonus. I'm not after trying so sneak something or claim something illegally, but perhaps an additional 4mths warranty for the length of the delay, or some kind of goodwill gesture would suffice.0 -
But you've only waited that long because you refused the reconditioned set. By the way, the 8th October was three months ago not four.but to be without a TV for 4 months is the irritating fact
Yes it would be a bonus, but is unlikely given the circumstances.if we could claim something back from them for the inconvenience it would be a bonus.
See posts above. You can either accept the reconditioned set or try to persuade them to give you a (partial) refund. There is no possibility of an extended warranty.I'm not after trying so sneak something or claim something illegally, but perhaps an additional 4mths warranty for the length of the delay, or some kind of goodwill gesture would suffice.
Nobody said you were trying anything illegal or "sneaky".
If I were you I'd take the reconditioned set and just accept that you bought a piece of cheap junk.0
