Advice re Epson XP605 Repair or Replacement

An update Today I collected my printer or another printer not boxed so assume that it is what was suggested one which had been reconditioned. It was wrapped in polythene and had tape on the parts which move.
When I looked inside there were inks present. I assumed they were new inks
I tried to print but to no avail I then copied a document but there were only a few green lines on the page.
I telephoned Epson Support and spoke to 2 different persons, Spent over an hour and was talked through the head cleaning procedure Firstly I had to replace the black ink after the first clean and then the yellow pink and blue followed by the photo black so all colours . I then did 3 cleans in total and I was advised to do this a further 3 times with a nozzle check after each 2 cleans As she went off the telephone I then got a message to say the black ink was not recognised and to reinstall I did this about 6 times and still no joy I have now spent almost 4 hours in total today and spent over £35 in new ink I installed today . The person I spoke to said call back in the morning if there is still a problem.
Really what I want now is either a refund or a new printer I am at my wits end with it and whilst that is not their problem Curry's is not near to where I live and not on a bus route so have spent £14 today for a taxi plus a previous £14 on the day I took it back .
I can't believe that I can be without a printer for so long and it has not been working since early December but I kept trying to resolve the problem I have spent a fortune in buying ink so much so that I could have bought 2 printers It would seem little point in having a guarantee and to have a printer returned to me which the girl says obviously has blocked print heads. Any advice PLEASE I am going to call them in the morning The girl went off the telephone after 58 minutes as it was past 5.30pm when she was due to finish work She did say she was concerned about the cost of the call I was able to find a no on the saynoto0870 thankfully.
Much appreciate your advice Sue0 -
Thanks a million for that Santer Will do I am so stressed with it all I know it is only a printer but the time spent and the failure to get it resolved is soul destroying

get a laser next time, far less trouble, no more dried up inks, and wasteful/time consuming head cleaning.!!

I have spoken to Customer Support this am someone called Jane She says I should not have had a printer sent to me with ink in it. She says she would investigate it as it should not have happened as you said Santer.
She has offered to send me another quality assuared printer but I have asked to speak with a Manager.
She said they will not give me a new printer but I said I want to speak with a manager despite what she says Will call me within 2 hours. I told her that I had sent an email to her Customer Support and copied this to Mr Butler along with a covering letter. She says he is no longer the MD and asked me what address I sent it to. I informed her that the email was not returned.
Last night the girl dealing with me said that they could probably give me some ink in view of the fact that I have now used the latest lots of ink I purchased just over 2 weeks ago. I paid £35 on line with Value Shop got the receipt etc. This was for a photo black and the 4 pack with the other 4 inks.
She says they will not give me a refund as that is for the shop but I have said that they could authorise it.
Just wondering if you have any further advice to give me. I do appreciate and value your advice.
I need a LIFE here but I could not sleep and was in here at 1.30am taking out the black ink and reinstalling .Did the same this am and all it does is bleep with the same info.

Update I have just had a call from a Manager at Epson She wanted to know if it came boxed etc and when I said no she again raised the question of Curry's
However the new printer has a different serial no so that was ruled out.
The end result is that I am to take the printer back to Curry's for a total refund or replacement under the sale of goods act. I have a reference no for this.
She has also said that if and when I buy a new printer and it is Epson I am to call them and they will send me some ink as a gesture of goodwill so I am happy for now. She has made on note on my ref details to that effect.
I will not buy a printer from Curry's in view of their attitude and will buy a different printer and probably from Amazon where I have always had good service.
At the end of the end it is back to the drawing board for me! regarding what I should now buy?
Thank you so much for all the advice I have been given on this forum I do appreciate.
Mr Butler is no longer the MD it is now Tony Petford just for your information.
I have achieved what I wanted a refund but probably if the printer I received yesterday had worked OK and not had the problems I encountered I would have been happy with that. Another day of frustration but light at the end of the tunnel
Thanks again

A result of sorts, though you only get the inks if you buy another Epson, which you probably don't feel like doing at the moment.
Maybe start another thread asking for recommendations for another printer, it will help if you list the types of printing you need to do etc.
I got the MD info from ceoemail dot com but it wouldn't let me add the link, and it was out of date anyway, though the mention of contacting the MD may have made them more attentive.
I have seven Epson printers and run them with compatible inks which is much cheaper, you could possibly ask for a list of printers which use those. Compatible inks have improved to the point where I would only use genuine inks for top end photos or for images which needed to last for ages.0 -
Thanks for that information I am happy that the problem has been resolved and the first Manager Nikki I spoke with was the one who gave me the new name of the MD Said the change happened only recently.
I took the printer back to Curry's and they were refusing to refund me and said it had to go again to Epson. They said they are not responsible for what Epson say.
I then gave him the details of the ref no and the name of the person who had authorised it. He then told me I would have to accept a gift voucher and that the till could not physically do a refund. He spoke to someone who told him to contact Epson I gave him the details and he got the verification to refund it. No problem with the card going though etc
As I said to him you are the retailer and it is up to you to sort it our with Epson I did hear him saying to Epson you will refund us and he wrote some reference down Not my problem
Would I buy from Curry's again absolutely not.
Yes you are right I will have to think about what I should buy but for now at least I am rid of the printer and the problem.
You have obviously had 7 as you say Epson printers and this was my 3rd First one lasted around 6 years and I just bought a new one. The last one again it was print head and as I had it for over 3 years just bought rather than repair it. I will start another thread but for tonight I am leaving well alone. Interestingly I read when I typed in Problems with Epson and came across an article where there was a court case settled out of court with Epson suing cant remember but JetTec who were infringing some of Epsons patents or something of that nature settled out of court 2013
I have bought JetTec ink in the past but note that there is no JetTec ink for the XP605 but they did have other compatible inks. Now I need to eat Once again thank you all so much and particularly you Santer for all the information and advice you have given me,
no doubt in a day or two I will be back looking for further advice.
With thanks

Can I ask the op what exactly happened when you tried to print with your last Epson?
Did it go through the motions? i.e pulling the paper in and making the usual printing noises before page comes out blank? Was there nothing printed at all? Not even half formed images? Were there any error messages?0
