Advice re Epson XP605 Repair or Replacement

I bought the Epson XP 605 printer on 5th May 2013 from Currys so it is still under guarantee. The question is do I have to accept a repair or am I entitled to a replacement
I bought this printer when my previous one would not print black and spent a lot of money buying ink but at the end of the day cut my losses and bought the above printer. Cost £69.99
I have spoken to the Epson support who would go through the maintainence check cleaning heads etc but I have told them I have done this but now my blue and pink ink are almost out. I had replaced the yellow ink a week or so ago.Yesterday I replaced the photo black and the black ink and as you know the ink is expensive. Paid £35 for a photo black and the set of 4 Epson inks on Friday.
I don't want to put further ink in due to the expense. I have been given a ref no by the Epson support which I can take to Currys I have the evidence of date of purchase which is on my credit card statement which is on my account but I can't get the printer to print this statement.
My question really is do I have to accept a repair or can I say that I wish a replacement. This is all a bit long winded but would appreciate advice.

The shop can offer you a repair or replacement - it's up to them. You can ASK for a replacement, but they do not have any legal requirement to give you one.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I realise this but this but the previous Epson printer I had developed a fault and would not print black I spent a lot of money on ink trying to resolve the problem but in the end I cut my losses and just bought this printer Again it is costing me a lot of money in ink trying to resolve it and I have lost confidence in that is this going to be an ongoing problem as before. I am elderly and it is causing me a lot of anxiety.
Thanks for your reply and I do appreciate what you are saying.

I'm not a fan of epson printers and would suggest that when if comes time to replace it, spend about £50 on a Canon one.

This is the 3rd Epson printer I have had The first lasted a few years and I got the 2nd one which as I have said developed a problem with the black ink. I had probably had it around 2 years so cut my losses rather than probably spending money on a repair. What happened then was I ordered a different printer from Amazon and when it came it seemed very flimsy I called them and they simply said send it back without question
I then went to Currys to have a look at this printer I now have and the chap said oh everyone comes here and then buy from Amazon but I said it is the same price so I am happy to buy it from you.
Now after this experience I don't think I would buy another Epson printer but it is very upsetting for me as I spent so much time on it yesterday and last night I was unable to sleep and kept going back to have another go at it . I really have lost all my confidence in the product. I have spoken to the Epson people and they say take it back along with the 3 colour inks I still have I am concerned if they say it is fixed then will I be back to square one in a couple of months.
Thanks you so much for your responses I suppose I just need to wait and see.

Epson have replaced a number of printers with quality assured ones for a charge of £10 towards the courier cost. All the exchange printers arrived with a new set of inks.

Maybe worth going back to Epson support if you can stand it, and ask for an exchange unit.

Their live chat agents are usually alright but ask for a supervisor if they won't exchange it

I have just spoken to Epson again and she offered to collect it and I need to send them the receipt I am not able to get the receipt as I paid by CC to Currys and I see the payment on the 5/5 for £69.99 but cant print it What she has asked me to do it get a copy of the receipt from Currys but I now think I will go to Currys and she has made a note on my ref no that I can take it there and a replacement would be sent to them for collection. Not sure if this is a new printer or a quality assuared one that you suggested She tells me that this is a printer that has been returned and had a full service and that it is in working order It would either be this model or an updated one.
Thanks for that very helpful advice. Do you have anything to add to this Will one that has been returned and had a service carry any guarantee with it? Sorry but not sure Will see how it goes My Daughter may be able to take me over.

Quality Assured Units should have three months guarantee, though Epson will be the best people to ask.

Having the replacement sent to Currys will be best if it is free of the courier charge.

    Hope it goes well

Thank you for the information and your good wishes! Will be going over shortly and will have my Daughter with me for moral support. I am always very nervous about matters like this. I have had a look at some of the reviews and one on the Epson said that it needed head cleaning about every couple of months and cost a fortune in ink Reckoned it used 3/4 of an ink cart each time. Another said that 2 new printers had blocked ink heads and had to be returned. A lot of people who were on the Amazon board who had problems and returned it to them without a problem and had a refund. Don't know anything about Curry's other than what I read some time ago and their Customer Services were not great. Will let you know how I get on. The cost of delivery to me is not a problem as Curry's and I would normally need to take a taxi there which would cost about £7 each way. It is just that my Daughter is off today. Thanks again

I took the printer to Curry's and after a bit of a search they were able to find the receipt no etc confirming the purchase date of 5th May. Initially he said they would send it for repair but I said I would prefer it to be replaced I had the ref no given to me by Epson having spoken to them 3 times.
In the end they say the current one is to be returned and they will send a new one to arrive in 4-5 days. I am not absolutely that it will be a new one even though he said it would. I was asked to keep the flex the cd disc and all the other information They also gave me the ink in the printer but I didn't think it was advisable to to put ink in that had already been in the Printer.
I will see what happens when the new one arrives. I did ask about guarantee and he said it would have 12 months guarantee. Either way if I get a printer that is working I will be happy as the current one I have just lost confidence in. Not sure is I should have had 5 or 4 inks when I did a nozzle check. It had 4 black pink blue yellow but there is also a photo black ink in that printer.
Thanks for the advice you have given me and I now have the receipt no etc. Curry's have said they will call me when the Printer arrives. Will update you once I receive the replacement Printer.

As I said I returned my Printer to Curry's on Monday 13th and was first told 2-3 days for a replacement and then after a telephone conversation with Epson told 4-5 days I have just been over today store not convenient for me to be told that my printer has not arrived.
I tried all day yesterday and this morning to call the store but they fail to answer the telphone.
They gave me the ink out of the computer I returned and they now say that the printer I will receive will not be boxed etc but just the printer. I was given the ink out of the printer I returned and I was told by them that I can put them into the replacement printer. I am scared to do this and the guy said oh just clean the print heads. I said but this uses a lot of ink and he says that cleaning the print heads does not use any ink. Not my experience as when I have cleaned the heads the ink goes down dramatically . I am elderly and I am now in the position where I have no printer which I need and no idea of when it will arrive as they say Epson can have up to 28 days to return it. Is all this correct! I used the 0844 no on the receipt they gave me to get through to a call centre who tell me the store is not answering their phone and they will send them an email Is this the standard of service that Curry's offer?
