What about the Samsung Ace range? They're screen size is around 3.5 or 3.8" and aren't bad handsets if my friends experiences are anything to go by. Not brand new handsets but the Ace2 isn't that old and may have a decent speed.0

Thanks for the ideas folks - I'll refer her to them and see what she thinks. One of the few small phones that is coming up well in reviews is the Samsung Galaxy 3 mini. Anyone got any views on it?0

The Motorola RAZR i seems like it could be the answer in this case. Overall a smaller phone than the S3 Mini but, crucially, with a bigger and better screen. Great phone too.

Or the Orange San Diego? A pretty bargainous £70 from chitterchatter/orange direct's ebay store but IIRc hard to get unlocked.

I've got an alcatel one touch 983 with a 3.5 inch screen which is good for the money we paid but my DD has a Motorola Razri which is a much better phone with a much bigger screen - I compared the sizes of them and the Razri is about the same width but very slightly longer and definitely thinner.0

I got a Acer Z3 since I wanted a smaller android phone. I've found it very good, there are a few downsides, low resolution 320x480 screen, no compass, power button takes a while to get used to. You can get them from Amazon for less than £100 and dual-sim ones for £100. Dual-sim function works really well.0

Have a look at the ZTE Blade V. Nice cheap(ish) phone0

That has a 4" screen so goes beyond your 3½" limit. One of the few small phones that is coming up well in reviews is the Samsung Galaxy 3 mini. Anyone got any views on it?
However I'd say that's probably the best smartphone you are going to get that qualifies as "cheap" for what it is.
My son got one for his birthday a couple of weeks ago (£129.99 from O2 on PAYG and fully unlocked) and we no longer hear any of the expletives we used to hear when he had a Galaxy Ace regarding it's performance.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
