    He's 18 not 12 !

I can't imagine an 18 year old wanting to share a day out with their Mum at a Harry Potter Experience, but that's just me.

I imagine a thumping night out at Ministry of Sound might be a better bet for some 18 year olds and some Mums might prefer it to a steam train ride as well....

Only joking each to their own :)

I know plenty of people who'd love the train ride and hate the night out (and vice versa). Depends entirely on the individual.

Thanks for the ideas so far!

His main interest is gaming and computers.

I am liking the driving suggestion, and also the big cat one (though I am in West Yorkshire so might investigate similar things up north).

He's at that age where he doesn't want to be with me for long periods, just short bursts lol!

I really appreciate all your replies everyone :-)

We are based in West Yorkshire.

He's 18. All he's gonna want to do is go and get hammered legally.

  • Just to add, we are planning to take him out for his first legal pint, followed by a curry (his favourite meal) too.

My dad's taking me to Harry Potter world for my birthday :(

    I'm 27 :o
  • I know the temptation is to go for a surprise but I'd just ask. There might be something he'd love to do but doesn't have the money or ability to organise.

I don't think that our kid's have the same feeling about being 18 (or in my case 21) that some of us parents do. So maybe it means more to us than it does to our kids.

He's lucky to have someone who cares and is trying to give him a great Birthday. Good luck whatever you choose.

Give him some money and let him spend it on what he wants, he doesn't need to go out and have an experience - he's not a kid anymore.. or get him a gaming chair/games.

I quite agree. My son is 18 next month and I'm sure that he doesn't want me anywhere near his celebrations as he has already made his own plans to go out on the Saturday night with his mates, and buy his first legal drink at the stroke of midnight when his birthday begins! I'm happy to leave him to it.
  • I've got 3 lads all past 18 now and none of them wanted to do anything special with me and their dad, they were quite happy to legally go out to the pub with their mates, actually the middle one was in Zante for his 18th on a lad's holiday, but the OP was specifically asking for suggestions for a day out. Some 18 yr olds are quite happy spending time with their parents and may have specific hobbies or interests.

Mine would definitely all enjoy the Harry Potter tour, as they grew up reading the books/watching the films and I'm hoping to go this year for my 50th.
