I hope your telephone interview went well?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Just an update.
Myself, the Job Club Manager and another Coach went for our formal training in March in Bradford. It was two days of very intensive trainingm, there was a lot to take in, but very, very useful. There have been another two Coaches approved for our church who were not able to make the training, they will be 'helpers' until they undertake the training in June. We also have other helpers and people to do the refreshments and one couple who are giving financial support specifically to the Job Club. (Other funds come from the church and our manager has secured funding from an outside organisation).
The manager and I went to Hereford yesterday to see a CAP Job Club at work. Very, very helpful, although I will never be able to deilver from the front in the inspired way the Hereford Coach did (but he was an ex-teacher). However, I'm confident that I can do it adequately. It's only a small part of the Job Club anyway, much of it is one-to-one help.
Next week we are going to our local Jobcentre to sit in on some interviews with clients who are signing on again after being on the Work Programme (I've a feeling many of our clients will be long-term unemployed). Again, this should be enlightening, informative and interesting, and the Jobcentre hopefully will refer people to us.
Finally, we already have a few clients for when the Club starts on May 1st (I'm sure others will be along too).
I'm now off to source a lockable cupboard to keep our laptops in.
Will keep updating as it is good for me to write it all down.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

The Job Club was officially 'launched' at church this morning. A representative of CAP came to give a talk and those of us involved in it (Manager, Coaches, helpers, some participants and the people who specifically pray for the Job Club) were brought out to the front and prayed for. A special collection was taken up (as well as the usual collection). This was because we need to have as 'float' of money in case anyone needs i.e. a bicycle to enable them to get to work, a shirt for an interview, a return bus ticket to enable them to attend an interview etc.
People have also been asked to donate any old memory sticks they might have so that each participant can have their own when they come to the Club. We have a budget for laptops and another church member is attending to this for us.
The local Food Bank donated us a metal stationery cupboard as they had been given several.
The Manager and myself talked to several people afterwards who wanted to be either volunteers or participants.
The Club starts officially on June 1st with two 'drop-in' days and then one day a week for eight weeks.
CAP's aim is to have a Debt centre, money management course and Job Club in every parish. Our church now runs all three.

The first meeting of our Job Club started on 1st May. We are having two 'drop-in' days and then the official start is May 15th.
Seven people turned up, three came from our church, two from the village where our Manager lives, one via the CAP debt counsellor and one from the Jobcentre.
Two people also came who did not want to participate in the Job Club, but just wanted to look round the Centre! (Our church is a new, multifunctional Centre, with seminar and other meeting rooms as well as the auditorium used for worship http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.expressandstar.com%2Fwpmvc%2Fwp%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2011%2F02%2FWD3898681%2540LifeSpring-Church.thumb.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.expressandstar.com%2Fnews%2F2011%2F02%2F02%2Fnew-church-approved-for-chapel-ash-site%2F&h=200&w=300&tbnid=Ph8VjEwc7HyK8M%3A&zoom=1&docid=ah0wo6N9nQplyM&ei=RCtmU9rXG8j_OazOgPgL&tbm=isch&ved=0CFcQMygAMAA&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=271&page=1&start=0&ndsp=8 ). We showed them round anyway, it was a good opportunity to tell them about all the things our church participates in.
Next week we are all going to get to grips with the computer programmes we will need to use, prior to the official kick-off the week after. I am also going to help one of the clients apply for PIP.
It was extremely interesting and rewarding and the time flew past.
I will update as and when if anyone is interested.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
