Having retired in 2004, living in Spain for eight years not working and then returning to the UK and becoming a professional Home/Petsitter at the age of 62 in 2012, I now have a second job :). This one is voluntary.

I'm going to be working for a Christians Against Poverty Job Club, run by our church. I'm going to be a Jobclub Coach, helping people to access the internet, help with literacy and numeracy if required and help into jobs or education or training.

I have yet to be formally approved, but don't think this will be a problem and then I have to have two day's training at CAP's Headquarters in Bradford.

I'm nervous but looking forward to it and hope I can be a positive force in peoples' lives as well as indirectly helping my impoverished city in its regeneration.

I will keep you posted if people are interested!

Don't be too nervous your literacy, spelling and clarity of thought are better than most on MSE. You should do well.
My friends back home don't consider it an impoverished city, unless you mean the state of the football club.
The only thing that is constant is change.

Thanks for your kind words :)

The football club is one thing. More importantly, the Council is broke.

Congratulations. One of our students from church spent a year working with CAP, and we run the CAP money course locally too. Brilliant people.

Although not a Christian, I fully applaud churches offering practical help like this to people - it's desperately needed in these complicated times.
