I go to Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury, Lidl and M & S.

Morrisons is a five mile walk there and back, I'd go there even more often if it was closer.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

  • I use public transport and buy a season bus pass so if I don't travel I feel I'm wasting money! |This is why I love the big city and wouldn't want to live anywhere outside of the Capital!
I also am a Londoner but moved to the country in 1979 so my sons could have a good education. I miss London but the London of the fifties, although I admit that modern London is great for shopping, especially for Asian foods. I feel an alien now whenever I visit the over-populated, multi-cultural, crime-ridden capital city.:(

I used to but now I tend to find I get the best price by buying from Asda and splitting my shopping to get the most out of my APG voucher. There's still the odd thing I buy elsewhere but I don't regularly go round them all to check (though I do regularly use mysupermarket just in case prices have changed).

It's true London has changed a lot - largely irreversibly so- in the last half a century or so. Sadly most large cities of the UK have seen a rise in crime- though I hear Glasgow was called the murder capital of Europe around 2004!

The irony about overcrowding is that London had a bigger population than it does now back in the 1930s just before WW2 and it was a lot smaller back then!

    I totally agree.

I'm just fed up with "I can't be bothered / life's too short / my time's too precious" style comments.

This is MSE. We're all surely here to help save money in some way. If a comment doesn't in any way help anyone save, think about ways to save or is counter-productive to that cause, I just don't get it.

It's like if I went on fishing forums and posted "how boring and pointless, you're wasting your time".

You certainly don't mince or bbq your words!

I rarely go in any supermarket .

    meat from butcher's in bulk

fruit and veg from local smallholder/veg shop

    rest online monthly

To travel to every supermarket would take hours plus fuel spend?

how do you know what is the ' best bargain ' unless you go to each shop , compare prices then go back to buy the cheapest?

    Mysupermarket website is very good!

I am very similar. Though I get my veg from Abel & Co every three or four weeks with occasional top up shops from local village stores. Since I do a lot of home baking my online supermarket shops are getting rarer and the last one for me was in early November and I still have three crates to eat my way through. Since I shop online I will split my order and get from a couple of stores and get the best prices from each store.

Though if you have lots of stores within walking distance then yes it makes sense to shop locally and shop around.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I tend to do occasional shops in all the main supermarkets, and a lot of local stores. Oddly enough though, I often find my local Waitrose works out most cost effective. It's both tiny meaning I buy far less crap I don't need, and seems to have badly managed stock meaning there are a lot of reduced sticker items.

I bounce between ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons and Lidl. My main shop is usually either ASDA or Tesco (delivered). I pick up bits in Morrisons as I get discount there and I get special offers (like half price weekend stuff) in Lidl :)

I've never really understood those people who do all their shopping in 1 store.

I've always shopped around and made a purchase in here and another here in order to get the best deals. Tbh I rarely spend over £5 in one shop!

But I'll happily go to Tesco,Sainsbury's,Morrsions,Aldi,Lidl,Farmfoods and Asda all in 1 day to get the best bargains!

I've never thought about it, but I suppose I do that more or less every week.
I do a main shop at weekend alternating between 2 or 3 of the main stores, then once a week on my way from the gym I stop at either a budget supermarket (lidl/aldi/pound shop), or an ethnic supermarket (Indian, Chinese or Turkish). Then in between when I drive past I pop in at my nearest local/small supermarket to pick up yellow stickers and special offers.
All this shopping doesn't take any special effort, I pop in when I'm driving/walking/cycling past. Only the main weekend shopping takes over an hour, the other times I'm in and out quickly.
I love eating very fresh vegetables, and I prefer to buy them twice a week, and also each store has stuff that is cheaper and/or better quality.
However when I was working away from home full time I would have never done it, it's only now that I work from home that I have time to do it.
However I would not go to one shop just to spend £5, unless it's a specific ingredient or special offer from the local supermarket that would take 5 mins.
