you could make these swedish chocolate balls, they need no cooking and they work better wth instant oats than normal ones, they will be fun for the kids to do.. and they are lush!!

I stocked up on these when on offer cos the kids loved them, only for them to 'go off them'!!!! Consequently I have 16 packets of the golden syrup variety (their original favourites), 6 of the apple and blueberry (these were in a variety pack and they weren't keen) and 1 original.
What else could I use them up for? I am reluctant to sling over 20 packets in the bin. Could I use them in flapjacks and would I have to adjust other ingrediants accordingly?

Each packet has 36g in. They are the ones you add milk to and do in the microwave for 2 mins.
  • I dont see why not - flapjacks sound nice, then you could add a packet to crumble topping, just replace 36g of a dry ingredient with a packet.

How about muffins - just substitute for some of the flour and add a bit more baking powder.

The only thing you might miss in the flapjacks is some of the texture, as these are ground fairly fine compared with the oats normally used in flapjacks, but I can't see a problem with the flavour and if you used half/half for example you'd get the best of both worlds.

I second the crumble topping idea though as both flavours would work well with most fruits.

I would be inclined to experiment by replacing any sweet baking recipe's flour with a proportionate amount of the oats so simple.

If you find you can't make use of them how about offering on Freecycle? I've often seen surplus food items offered, and you could split between 2 or 3 people.

I use ready brek to make pancakes so I'm sure oatsosimple would work too.

    Whisk 1 egg until frothy.
Mix 2 tbsp plain flour and 2 tbsp ready brek (or oss if you prefer) with enough milk to make a thick batter.
Fold the egg into the flour/ready brek/milk mix gently.
Fry dessert spoon fulls (in oil or butter) for about 1 min on each side until golden brown.

I often add pureed banana to make banana pancakes or chopped fruit (frozen berries are fab) to make them more interesting.

We often eat the pancakes for breakfast and then toast the leftovers with butter for afternoon tea!
