What, why? You may ask
My hubby recently decided to open his own account, to clear out all of his (many) unused hobby equipment, as most of it is specialist stuff.
Because of this, and him looking like he is new to ebay, we have seen every scam under the sun tried on us.
The latest was a buyer who ignored the collection only nature of the auction, and tried to demand she send a courier to collect after paying by paypal.
We told her firmly, no, and she started getting abusive in her messages.
Finally she decided that she wasn't going to get the item, and agreed to a mutual cancellation.
And she left positive feedback, but the stars on the account went from all 5s and 4.9s, to 2s, she obviously knew that wrecking the stars hurts more than a neg sometimes.
Obviously this put the account in danger, so I called ebay, who after some persuasion, removed the feedback.:j:j
So thank you ebay, we may hate you at times, but you can be good.
P.S. It's a shame she may have been reported to HMRC, by someone, she is a private seller, but has over 40 lines, all with over 10 available.
And she buys and sells from the same account, not very clever that.
Remember, don't get mad get even:A

Oh well, seeing as no one replied, it is probably because this post is pathetic ,I am at a loss as to how much one small ebay sale has ruined your entire life and left you so full of negativity. Move on. And if you really have shopped someone to HMRC lets hope it doesn't come back and bite you on the bum, I don't think small personal revenue on ebay is going to get them locked up and flung in jail , what are you trying to achieve?NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

I'm sorry- have I missed something?
You are gloating on your own thread about having got one over on a buyer- who may well not have his parcel , fair enough. However, the OP here has seen something you have obviously missed- a set of low stars on a new account means that they are in trouble before they even start. Those stars stay with them for a full year, and if they sell infrequently, as the thread suggests, two more low stars in any category in the next 12 months would see them restricted and potentially banned.
I am susrprised that you as an established seller doe snot understand the implications of the expanded dashboard and I suggest you hurry across to read the thread here:

Is that not ok? Sending someone else (like a courier) to collect on collection-only?
Genuine question. Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -

Genuine question.
No, it is a real issue for many reasons. Firstly, the paypal issue of the seller having no contract with the courier, and potentially no tracking or insurance- so buyer can claim INR or for damage leaving the seller out of pocket. Secondly, seller still has to pack the item and stay in for an unspecified period of time to await courier- again with no control and no insurance.
If something can be couriered then it should be stated with a price in the listing, then seller can retain control, choose a courier that arrives in a suitable time frame and be aware of the packing requirements to be insured.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I never stated that it ruined our life, just caused us half an hour on the phone.onetwothree123 wrote: »Oh well, seeing as no one replied, it is probably because this post is pathetic ,I am at a loss as to how much one small ebay sale has ruined your entire life and left you so full of negativity. And I hardly call having over £12,000 worth of stock listed on a personal account a small revenue.
I have nothing to hide from HMRC, so have nothing to fear.
You sould like you are just the type of person, and seller I try to avoid.
I'm afraid to say, you need to step back, and look again, you are the angry one.0 -
LOL be sure you give me YOUR ebay name(s) so I can made an indefinite block on you or your hubbies accounts , I wonder what the likely outcome would be of "report" though that is bad news, do you think the HMRC honestly care about one person selling odds and ends , so this started cos the lady won heavy machinery DARED to try and book a courier ,so ok, I agree she needs arrested, interviewed under caution, taken to court right away LOL? What would that achieve, I always say you shouldnt make threats on the web as its all logged.
Dont get angry get even what does that mean anyway, also if EVERY single person at ebay who didnt know how to propose to transport a heavy item after a purchase who doesnt own a car is a scammer, then there would be NO ebay at all, how badly did it affect your life, a half an hour you claim, yet you seek revenge ....how much we talking here about £50 for some second hand garaged item ? Or have I missed the point you were making, you argued over couriering on a collect only item and for spite, decided to grass her to the taxman , cos I would not even know how to calculate what someones stock our profit was worth on ebay or even the number to report someone who didnt register as a business or whatever the report is going to say .
Of course, no one wants to be ripped off or scammed, but how can you say for sure and with 100% accuracy that this was a total ploy to scam you, PLUS the star system at ebay is also anonymous, the person left you a positive she doesn't sound like a nasty person , how do you know she gave you all 1 stars, those lowered stars could have been received from anyone as its uncheckable and only adjusted every few weeks or months so wouldnt change overnight.
You just jumped the gun and could probably have done something more useful for society than report someone for selling some personal stuff on ebay, being malicious isnt my bag but each to their own! ROFLNB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0 -
Onetwothree123 are you actually responding on the correct thread ? Your post doesn't seem to correspond with the OP at all.
As for HMRC, oh yes they are very interested in reports of undeclared businesses. As part of a voluntary post I held I dealt with people that had run into problems with both HMRC and DWP after being reported (usually by family members strangely enough).
Again as a seller I must say I am surprised you haven't worked out how it is possible to work out who has left poor stars .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I thought that all private accounts have limits only can sell 100 items in one month dependent on account standing, and about £1000 a week max I would think, so do ebay now allow individuals to sell £12,000 of stock, wonder if that that a month or a week or a year...? Just seems a lot of stock, anyway they will soon be using ebay from jail so never mind!NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

New private sellers are limited to amounts usually below 100 items per month. The 100 item limit applies to the free 99p listings that private sellers get. If you read some of the eBay challenge threads on other MSE boards you will find some private sellers talking about hundreds of listings a month.
It is possible for an established private seller to have no limits, and a few of my competitors running businesses through a private account have certainly turned over thousands and thousands a year.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
