Car insurance Advice for my 17 year old

We got a very cheap car for my son when he was learning, when he was 17 his insurance as a provisional driver was just short of £1000, this was in 2009 on an old volvo, much cheaper than insuring a smaller car incidentally.
I bought the car in the November but I didn't start taking him out in it until the February as the roads were too dangerous for such an inexperienced drive, we made sure that when he took his practical test he had been insured for a year so he also had a years NCD when changing his insurance. It actually turned out to be a year and three months when he passed, his insurance went up to £3000, however he wasn't using his car for commuting for work, just social and he had a yearly mileage estimate of 10,000 miles.0 -
Daughter, started late, age 18, (but made no difference from 17) older KA, three months provisional with Collingwood, £250, Diamond, £1400 when she passed recently, 0 ncd, commuting, college and part time job declared. Will be driving through the coming months.0

He may not be 17 now but in 3weeks he will, so cant you put the date you want cover to start on his 17th birthday? He will be 17 the day insurance starts then (just for the purpose of the quote).
Other than that, just change the date of birth, by a month, the FBI aren't going to swarm into your house and turn the house over for changing a date of birth by a month. I've done it plenty of times.
My first year insurance was just under £3000 on a vauxhall corsa 1.2L
That was around 3 years ago when I was 17, I believe insurances have been balanced out a little bit? so lads insurance has dropped abit and girls has increased abit?
There is a guide on here for getting cheaper car insurance as well I think, check in the top links.
One way to perhaps knock a few quid off is to put an experienced driver or 2 on his insurance as ADDITIONAL DRIVERS not main drivers, thats not illegal providing you do have the "intention to use the vehicle at some point", even still I dont think its illegal0 -
You can buy the car after he passes the test. And tell me what is the need of the quote now? If you are willing to buy the car now, you can purchase it from the shop or online and get the quotes after 3 months. And for insurance, you can add your names as additional drivers.0

Did you bother to read the OP, he has already bought a car.0 -
Firstly, that's clearly spam.
Secondly, it's wrong. telematics won't tell you anything about phone use, just when and how they drive, and are likely to penalise you heavily for anything they don't like.0 -
Also telematics dont usually allow night driving (or load heavily for it), so not suitable for OPS son0

We bought DD's car 3 months before her 17 th birthday and insured it in her name from the day she was 17. we used the same insurer as we did for the rest of our vehicles and there was no change to premium when she passed her test! OP ring around a couple of brokers and explain. Also contact Co-op and Aviva because they are not on the online sites.
As she had her own car she drove every day - I took her to school and DH drove with her every evening - couple of driving lessons a week and she passed first time exactly 8 weeks after her birthday. I'm with you on this one - get your son on the roads and practice, practice!0 -
My son passed his test 3 weeks after 17th birthday
* He got telematics box insurance for £1700 on a 2008 fiesta zetec
* On really useful - you can have the night driving restriction taken off telematics with AUTOSAINT - but you have to be monitored on something else .... monitored on 3 areas out of 4
Speeding, Acceleration, Braking (and Night Driving)
Telematics box has a tracking system so you can log on to the net and see when your son/daughter is exactly:j0 -
